Volkswagen Recalls Select 2023-2024 ID.4 EVs Over Airbag Inflator Concerns Amid Other Model Issues
Volkswagen has issued a recall for a select group of 2003-2024 ID.4 electric models because of potential issues with the installation of airbag inflators.
The NHTSA has announced a recall affecting a total of 837 vehicles from the 2023 and 2024 model years. The issue at hand is that the nuts meant to fasten the main inflator in the passenger side airbag might not have been properly tightened during manufacturing. This defect could potentially lead to the airbags not deploying as they should.
Upcoming 2024 model of the Volkswagen
The NHTSA pointed out that if the airbag inflator's nuts are not tightened properly, those in charge of the vehicle might notice a clattering noise coming from the dashboard area.
Service centers will inspect the tightness of the screws on the airbag inflators and will install a new airbag at no cost if any screws are not properly tightened. Volkswagen intends to start sending out notices to vehicle owners on October 18. For further details, owners may reach out to Volkswagen's customer support at 1-800-893-5298.
Upcoming 2024 Model of Volkswagen's
Volkswagen has recently announced a significant recall involving 98,806 of its ID.4 electric vehicles, spanning the 2021 to 2024 model years, due to a defect in the manufacturing of door handles. This problem has led to a directive to halt sales and production of the ID.4 until the issue is resolved. The recall was issued because the door handles may not be sealed properly, potentially allowing water to penetrate the printed circuit board and leading to the risk of doors opening unexpectedly. This recall comes on the heels of a previous one earlier in the year for ID.4 models from 2021 to 2023, which targeted concerns over the vehicle's gauge clusters and infotainment systems.
The ID.4, which debuted in the 2021 model lineup, saw significant enhancements for its 2024 iteration, boasting extended battery life and enhanced infotainment systems, tackling numerous problems initially identified by Green Car Reports in prior versions. Despite these advancements, the cost uptick has slightly diminished the Volkswagen's cost-effectiveness. Nevertheless, being manufactured in Tennessee ensures that models with batteries produced within the country retain eligibility for the $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax incentive.
