Vinales’ Grit After Harrowing Crash and Oliveira’s Triumph: A Mixed Weekend for Aprilia at the German MotoGP
Vinales expresses determination to persevere to the finale | Aprilia lauds the emergence of the authentic Miguel
Maverick Vinales laments missed chance for a strong performance today, expressing regret.
Maverick Vinales, who had topped the timing charts on Friday, saw his aspirations for a strong qualifying position at the German MotoGP dashed after a significant highside crash at the lengthy Turn 10 left curve.
The Aprilia team's lead racer took a hard fall, landing squarely on his back, and took a moment before getting to his feet, with assistance from the track officials.
Further examinations at the Medical Centre thankfully showed that the 'blunt force impact' did not cause 'any broken bones or damage to the ligaments and joints'.
However, Vinales, nursing his injuries, secured the seventh position on the Sprint grid, momentarily surged to fourth, only to be overtaken by Enea Bastianini, Franco Morbidelli, and, in a dramatic final corner, by Marc Marquez.
"Prior to the accident, I was testing the boundaries in anticipation of the last time trial. Truthfully, I did not anticipate a highside at that moment," Vinales remarked regarding his tumble during the qualifiers.
"I endeavored to maintain my physical strength until the final moment. It's particularly disappointing because today presented a significant chance for success. We have the potential to lead tomorrow; our pace during the race supports this. I anticipate a better physical condition then."
Vinales stands as the sole Aprilia factory racer present, as his fellow team member, Aleix Espargaro, has been sidelined due to injuries sustained at Assen.
Nonetheless, the Sprint podium did feature an RS-GP, thanks to Trackhouse racer Miguel Oliveira who secured his top Aprilia finish yet, nabbing a tight second place behind Jorge Martin.
"In recent days, Aprilia has shown remarkable competitiveness at the Sachsenring," stated Romano Albesiano, the technical director.
Switching from the high-speed circuit of Assen to this current venue, we anticipated facing some challenges, which, surprisingly, we haven't encountered.
"Regrettably, Aleix is absent from the track, and Maverick's accident has undoubtedly impacted his starting spot on the grid.
"We're delighted with Team Trackhouse's performance, witnessing the real Miguel at last. He's earned it, particularly with the setbacks from injuries he faced last year."
