Vinales Battles Shaking Issues to Secure Fifth Place at Assen: A Close Contender to Ducati
Maverick Vinales discusses the challenges he faced with changing direction at Assen.
Maverick Vinales experienced vibrations while making high-speed directional shifts at Assen.
Maverick Vinales emerged as the primary challenger to Ducati at the Dutch MotoGP, competing fiercely with Enea Bastianini, Marc Marquez, and Fabio Di Giannantonio for a spot on the podium.
After Marquez received a penalty following the race, Vinales was elevated to fifth place, while Marquez fell to tenth.
However, Vinales faced a challenging race as he exerted maximum effort right from the first lap.
Vinales seemed to be faster on specific sections of the track and didn't appear to have any trouble competing against his opponents.
However, the Aprilia racer encountered significant issues, experiencing intense vibrations while navigating the high-speed turns.
Vinales mentioned that he struggled throughout the entire race. He speculated that it might have been due to a shift in the wind, but every time he switched direction between turns 14 and 15, his bike experienced significant shaking.
"I was falling behind significantly in those turns. It appears that our bike's ability to change direction, which is supposed to be its strong suit, was actually our biggest weakness compared to the other racers."
"We aren't completely content since our goal is to compete for the victory, but we're pleased with our performance as we were the sole contenders against Ducati."
"I noticed Pedro Acosta was nearby, but he was using a different tire. Honestly, I pushed myself to the limit from the very first lap."
Maverick Vinales was the sole factory Aprilia rider participating as Aleix Espargaro was unable to compete due to an injury.
After sustaining back fractures in a crash during the sprint, test rider Lorenzo Savadori decided to withdraw from participating in the grand prix.
