Vettel’s Red Bull Return Talks: Enquiries to Replace Perez Amidst F1 Comeback Speculations
Sebastian Vettel "consistently inquired" about the possibility of rejoining Red Bull F1 to take over Sergio Perez's position.
It's said that Sebastian Vettel made several inquiries to Red Bull regarding the chance to come back and fill Sergio Perez's slot.
Helmut Marko disclosed that Sebastian Vettel has consistently shown interest in coming back to F1 by reaching out to Red Bull multiple times.
Vettel retired from Formula 1 at the close of 2022 after two disappointing seasons with Aston Martin.
Despite being away from the competition, there are rumors of Vettel potentially making a comeback.
Audi was considered among the choices as they sought a German driver, eventually choosing Nico Hulkenberg.
Nonetheless, Audi's competitive nature and their delayed entry into Formula 1 until 2026 probably deterred Vettel.
However, it appears that Vettel might have staged a return if it involved Red Bull.
During a conversation with Formel1.de, Marko revealed that Vettel showed enthusiasm for taking over Sergio Perez's position.
"Marko mentioned that Vettel has frequently reached out to them, but he believes it wouldn't be enjoyable for Vettel to race alongside Max Verstappen."
"From the information I've received, it appears he's leaning towards joining Porsche for endurance racing. In my opinion, that would be an excellent move for him."
It's highly probable that Red Bull will keep Perez on board, as various sources indicate that an agreement might be revealed in the coming weeks.
Perez joined the team in 2021, serving as a reliable backup for Max Verstappen.
Nonetheless, Red Bull must remain cautious as McLaren and Ferrari have shown enhanced performance in the initial races of 2024.
Perez dropped to fifth place in the drivers' standings following his failure to finish at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Following his retirement, Vettel has been spotted several times in the F1 paddock, with his latest visit being at Imola, where he played a key role in honoring Ayrton Senna.
In a conversation with journalists at Imola, including those from Crash.net, Vettel shared his satisfaction with his choice to retire.
"I long for many aspects of it… However, I don't rise each morning feeling nostalgic for those times on the stage when crowds chant my name," he further stated.
"I believe I have a practical outlook on life and am always eager to embrace new opportunities. I'm satisfied with where I am, and while there are many aspects of my past I yearn for, there are equally as many that I don't. Deciding was difficult, but in hindsight, I anticipated a possibility of return. However, ultimately, everything remained the same, so I remain pleased with the choice I made."
