Liam Lawson’s F1 2025 Comeback Hopes Dim as Red Bull Expresses Satisfaction with Tsunoda and Ricciardo
Liam Lawson's aspirations to join the F1 lineup in 2024 have suffered a setback.
Liam Lawson's aspirations to rejoin the F1 circuit in 2025 suffered a setback when RB CEO Peter Bayer indicated satisfaction with their existing roster of drivers.
The contracts for both drivers at RB will expire by year's end, and following Lawson's notable one-time appearance in F1 last year, plans were being made for him to join as a regular driver in 2025.
However, it appears that Red Bull's initial strategy to pair Daniel Ricciardo with Max Verstappen at Red Bull, and Yuki Tsunoda with Lawson in the junior team, is no longer being considered.
Ricciardo's performance, when compared to Tsunoda, has been disappointing and does not justify an advancement, leading to Red Bull's preference for Sergio Perez. It is rumored that his renewed contract might be made public in the coming weeks.
Tsunoda's performance in 2024 has been impressive, fully justifying a contract renewal, while Ricciardo's expertise and appeal significantly enhance his value.
Bayer has no intention of engaging in conversations about the team's driver roster for the upcoming season, strongly indicating his contentment with the existing duo.
"Bayer expressed satisfaction with their two drivers, stating, 'Honestly, there's no point in engaging in conversations about hypotheticals or timings.'"
"Our team boasts an impressive roster, including a standout reserve driver. We're also seeing incredible potential emerging from F2 and F3. Right now, our primary concern is enhancing our performance, particularly with our sights set on overtaking Aston Martin, rather than engaging in conversations about our drivers."
Bayer suggested that the topic of their driver roster will not come up for discussion before the summer hiatus.
"Bayer emphasized Liam's critical role in the team, pointing out, 'He dedicates his weekends to us without fail. His contributions in the simulator are significant.'"
"As I mentioned earlier, at present, we're operating with two drivers in the vehicles. We're achieving results with both of them. Moreover, we're not really engaging in conversations about what's happening in 2025, possibly due to the advantageous position of having a robust support structure beneath us."
"Thus, the concentration is truly on racing and on the upcoming few competitions, at least until the summer break."
