Valtteri Bottas Dismisses Mercedes F1 Return for 2025, Seeks Multi-Year Deal Amid Uncertain Future
Valtteri Bottas dismisses the possibility of rejoining Mercedes F1 team in 2025: “Being a placeholder for a year…”
Valtteri Bottas has responded to rumors suggesting he might be considered by Mercedes.
Valtteri Bottas has firmly dismissed the possibility of rejoining Mercedes for just one season, as he aims to secure a more stable position with his future Formula 1 team.
Valtteri Bottas's contract will expire at the end of the year, and the announcement of his next Formula 1 team is still pending.
The driver, who has won 10 Formula 1 grand prix races, is a significant contender in the driver market. However, a crucial aspect hinges on Carlos Sainz’s decision.
It is thought that Bottas is among the candidates being considered by both Alpine and Williams for the next season, though Sauber, his current team, is still a potential but less likely choice.
Sainz has connections with all three teams, yet he still ranks higher in the selection hierarchy.
In the end, Bottas' fate will be determined after Sainz makes his decision in the next few weeks or months.
Mercedes, the team that Valtteri Bottas used to race for, remains uncertain about who will join George Russell as they await Max Verstappen's decision.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli, the talented young driver, is still considered the top choice. However, there were discussions about whether Mercedes might need a temporary solution for a year, which could have included bringing Bottas back.
In an interview with Mirror Sport, Bottas dismissed the possibility of going back to Brackley, stating that his main focus is securing a multi-year contract in Formula 1.
He expressed that occupying a position for just one year isn't what he desires or requires right now. Instead, he is looking for a multi-year commitment with a well-defined plan for the upcoming years and a collaborative effort over that period.
“I believe I need a significant challenge and a well-defined strategy. Doing just one year puts me back at the starting point, having to consider the next steps all over again. I'm on good terms with Toto, so naturally, we've discussed all aspects.”
Valtteri Bottas has been with Sauber for the past three years, and in his first season, he helped the team achieve their highest placement in the F1 constructors’ championship in ten years.
Since that time, Sauber has lagged behind in the development competition, frequently finding it challenging to earn points.
At present, Bottas occupies the last position in the drivers’ championship standings, having not earned any points in 12 consecutive races.
Anticipating the future, Bottas is eager to resolve the issue promptly.
"It would be comforting to have stability," he mentioned. "However, I was aware when I agreed to everything that, in three years, we would face the same situation once more."
"It's somewhat thrilling if there ends up being a change. I'm okay with how things are now—it's been intriguing—but I want to resolve it soon. That way, I'll be even more content."
