Seat Leon (2024): Die Evolution des Spanischen Bestsellers – Neue Technik, Bewährtes Design
Seat Leon (2024): Refresh for the Spanish Hatchback
While the Cupra Leon undergoes changes, the Seat version remains visually the same
Is the Seat brand extinct? Not at all! Last year, they saw an increase in worldwide sales. It's not surprising, considering models like the Arona or Tarraco are pleasantly standard, have an attractive design, and offer affordable leasing options. Now, following the Cupra Leon, the Seat Leon is set to receive an update.
It's not surprising that this update has come about, considering all the MQB compact series vehicles under the Volkswagen Group have already gone through their facelift cycles. This started with the VW Golf, followed by the Audi A3, Skoda Octavia, and then the Cupra Leon. Unlike the others, the Seat Leon's exterior remains the same, likely a strategic move to distinguish Cupra from Seat more clearly. The only new feature available is the option for Matrix LED headlights.

Thus, the Seat Leon undergoes a "technical and technological enhancement," as the brand states. The lineup features fresh engine options, including a new 1.5 TSI engine and a new iteration of eHybrid plug-in hybrids, alongside an upgraded digital experience in the cockpit for both the five-door and Sportstourer models.
Wayne Griffiths, the Chief Executive Officer of Seat, has stated that the Seat Leon remains a critical component of the brand's strategy, charting a path of success and paving the way for new technological advancements. He highlighted that the broadened range of engines, featuring the latest eHybrid, along with digital advancements, continue to drive its progress forward.

The Seat Leon continues to be a cornerstone in the brand's strategic plan. It offers a diverse selection of powertrains, featuring four distinct technologies: TSI (petrol), eTSI (mild hybrid), TDI (diesel), and eHybrid engines (plug-in hybrid). There are seven power options available, ranging from 115 horsepower (85 kilowatts) to 204 horsepower (150 kilowatts).
The vehicle is now available solely with four-cylinder engines, offered as either a 1.5 TSI – with options for a standard petrol engine, a mild hybrid, or a plug-in hybrid – or a 2.0 TDI diesel engine. The base model has been upgraded to the new 1.5 TSI engine, previously a 1.0 TSI, delivering 115 horsepower (an increase of 5 hp) and 220 Newton-meters of torque (up by 20 Nm), paired with a six-speed manual transmission. According to the manufacturer, carbon dioxide emissions range from 120 to 132 grams per kilometer, and the fuel consumption is between 5.3 and 5.8 liters per 100 kilometers, based on the official WLTP testing cycle.
The refreshed Seat Leon comes with two choices of 48V mild-hybrid technology (eTSI): a 1.5-liter engine offering either 115 hp (85 kW) or 150 hp (110 kW), both exclusively paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission. Find out how the 115 hp mild-hybrid performs in the Skoda Octavia here.
Upcoming Seat Leon Model (2024)
The latest offering for the Seat Leon includes a fresh lineup of eHybrid engines (Plug-in Hybrid) delivering a performance of 204 horsepower (150 kW)/350 Newton-meters. This setup merges a 1.5-liter TSI petrol engine with an output of 150 horsepower (110 kW), an electric motor producing 115 horsepower (85 kW), and a lithium-ion battery pack with a 19.7 kWh capacity. According to Seat, this blend allows for an all-electric range exceeding 100 kilometers. When it's time to recharge, drivers can now utilize up to 50 kW at DC fast-charging stations or 11 kW at an AC home wall box.
Inside, the Leon has embraced a tech-forward approach with a newly enhanced Human-Machine Interface (HMI) evident in the digital dashboard (10.25 inches) located behind the steering wheel as well as in the upgraded standard infotainment system (now 10.4 inches, previously 8.25 inches) or the larger optional 12.9-inch infotainment system. Both systems feature a newly illuminated slider for improved interaction. The touchscreen's design and functionality have been refined for more intuitive use. Additionally, the vehicle offers a wireless charging feature that supports fast charging up to 15 watts and includes cooling technology.
Evaluation of the Seat:
The manufacturing of the Seat Leon takes place in Martorell, Spain, and it's set to commence production in May 2024. There's yet to be information on the pricing for the German market. Previously, the starting prices were €28,130 for the five-door model and €29,715 for the estate version.
