Toto Wolff Opens Up on Hamilton’s Departure: ‘No Regrets’ as Lewis Clinches Fairytale British GP Victory
Is Toto Wolff remorseful over Lewis Hamilton's departure from Mercedes?
Toto Wolff faced a question regarding whether he regrets Lewis Hamilton's choice to leave Mercedes in 2025.
Toto Wolff claims he has "no regrets" regarding Lewis Hamilton's choice to depart from Mercedes and join Ferrari, according to Lewis Larkam's report from Silverstone.
Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, emerged victorious after a fierce, race-long duel with Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. This triumph at the thrilling wet-dry British Grand Prix at Silverstone marked his first Formula 1 win in nearly three years and his 104th career victory.
This event was Hamilton's last race at the British Grand Prix driving for Mercedes, as he is set to make a high-profile move to Ferrari next season.
When questioned about any regrets regarding Hamilton's departure from Mercedes, Wolff responded that he has no regrets because it’s not possible to have any.
"We are grown-ups. We make choices. We pursue them. That’s what matters most."
"We need to end this season positively by giving them a car capable of winning so the team can earn points in the constructors' championship. That's just the reality of the situation."
Wolff referred to Hamilton’s unprecedented ninth victory at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone as a “small fairytale”.
He explained that the past two years had been extremely challenging, as they were unable to provide the drivers with a car capable of achieving victories.
"And to see him triumph once more at the British Grand Prix, in what will be his final race with Mercedes at this venue, feels almost like a fairytale."
After the race, Hamilton confessed that there were moments during his 945-day stretch without a win when he questioned if he would ever triumph again.
"Our history together is extensive," Wolff commented. "We've both faced difficult times throughout. He has supported me, and lately, I've attempted to help him through his moments of uncertainty."
"That's why it's so satisfying to see him push away all the negative thoughts and deliver such a strong performance. It seems like a huge burden has been lifted from him."
