Thrills and Spills at Aragon: Binder’s Burnouts and Miller’s Misfortunes
Brad Binder exclaimed, “I experienced another rolling burnout!” Meanwhile, Jack Miller mentioned that he was “overtaken by Rins.” Binder reflected on his strategy, saying, “I had a solid plan last night to avoid losing traction at the start…”
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend since the start of the season in Qatar, achieving 4th and 6th place finishes at Aragon.
Despite veering off the track in both competitions, he managed to secure seventh place, benefiting from starting on the cleaner side of a messy grid.
During the middle stages of the race, Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta. This pursuit turned into a competition for third place following an incident between Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained slightly beyond grasp.
"Last night, I came up with a solid plan to avoid spinning out at the start, and just like yesterday, I did a rolling burnout!" Binder said with a smile.
"I was able to navigate through and overtake several racers. It was challenging to avoid errors since the front tire was overheating while trailing others, right up until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time when exiting corners since I couldn't go in too quickly without overheating the front. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire wore out by the end."
"I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but there was no traction left at the back!"
"We took some promising strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to perform well throughout the race."
Jack Miller, starting from 15th position, made a strong initial push and climbed to eighth place by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian rider quickly faced issues with rear tire traction.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins on the final lap and finishing ninth, he was one of three riders penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tyre pressure issues, which ultimately pushed him down to 15th place.
“It was a lengthy race,” Miller commented. “The track conditions varied once more; it has been quite dirty throughout the weekend, but today it felt more slippery.”
“I gave it my all. It was challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire and I experienced a significant highside incident while exiting the final turn.”
“I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges transitioning from the edge to the center of the tire… but I managed to finish successfully.”
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I had a hard time keeping up with the guys ahead. We'll continue to work hard and push forward."
"I’m pleased with finishing in the top ten, though Rins edged past me on the final lap's back straight. I was trying my best to maintain precision, but I didn’t get a good acceleration and he managed to overtake me on the back straight."
“We will return to Misano.”
KTM will have five riders this weekend as test rider Pol Espargaro joins as a wild-card entry.
“Next, we’ll head to Misano with an eye on the upcoming test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which should provide us with some valuable insights moving forward,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race is set to begin, with Binder trailing Acosta by three points. Acosta currently ranks fifth in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, is currently in 15th place, just three points behind Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.
