Tencent’s WeChat Pay Introduces Innovative Palm Payments in Macau, Marking First Expansion Outside Mainland China
Tencent's WeChat Pay introduces hand-scanning payments in Macau, focusing on tourists from mainland China. WeChat Palm Pay enables these tourists to make payments by scanning their hand in stores situated in hotels belonging to the Galaxy Entertainment Group.
For the first time, Tencent's WeChat Pay, locally referred to as Weixin Pay, has enabled palm payment options beyond mainland China.
In the beginning stage, the service will be inaugurated in more than 60 stores and sites throughout casino resorts and entertainment locations owned by Galaxy Entertainment Group from Hong Kong. These establishments consist of the StarWorld Hotel, Galaxy Macau, Broadway Macau, and Galaxy Arena.
Tencent announced its intentions to broaden the application of its technology in various locations within Macau.
"The Weixin Palm Pay system has been extensively incorporated into various sectors such as retail, dining, transportation, and power bank rentals across mainland China," stated Kai Xia, the leader of Weixin Pay's hardware innovation, in a communication on Tuesday.
