Ricciardo Apologizes After Hulkenberg Clash at Italian GP; Tsunoda’s Frustration Grows Over Haas Incident
Daniel Ricciardo comments on incident with Nico Hulkenberg: "I believed there was enough room; I said sorry"
Daniel Ricciardo addresses the collision with Haas during the Italian Grand Prix in Formula 1
Daniel Ricciardo mentioned that he apologized to Nico Hulkenberg after the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix due to a collision that occurred between them on the first lap.
Red Bull's driver Ricciardo was competing against Hulkenberg in the middle of the field during the first lap of the Monza race on Sunday when they collided at Turn 8.
Ricciardo mentioned that he believed he had enough room, but then experienced a collision – causing Hulkenberg's Haas to be pushed onto the dirt, allowing team-mate Kevin Magnussen to pass.
The Australian driver received a five-second penalty for the incident, but later had to serve an additional 10-second penalty because one of his mechanics touched the car during the initial penalty period at his pit stop.
Ricciardo finished a difficult race at his home track for the RB team in 13th place.
“We simply weren’t fast enough today, even if we disregard the penalties,” he stated.
"We gave it a shot, and I had fun battling side by side initially, but I ended up colliding with Nico at Turn 8."
"After the race, I had a conversation with him. I believed there was enough space between us, but I felt the impact, indicating I hadn't given him sufficient room. I then offered my apologies."
"When you compete intensely, even the tiniest differences can have a big impact."
"The vehicle performed adequately afterward, and we exerted maximum effort with the resources available to us. From Friday afternoon until today, I aimed to extract the full potential from the car."
"From my perspective, I felt significantly improved this weekend, and we nearly earned points."
Tsunoda Feels Frustrated
Laurent Mekies from RB commented that the Italian Grand Prix was influenced by Nico Hulkenberg, as a crash involving the Haas driver and Yuki Tsunoda led to the Japanese driver's race coming to an end.
Yuki Tsunoda expressed his frustration, stating it was unfortunate that his race essentially ended just a few laps in because of a collision with Nico.
"I attempted to give him ample room, but it appeared he froze up, leading to a loss of control and resulting in a collision with me."
"Regrettably, we had to pull the car out of the race due to some damage sustained on the floor."
"I noticed it immediately and attempted to keep going, but the vehicle was skidding and I just couldn't control it."
"We're heading to Baku and Singapore next, and our car is expected to perform strongly at those tracks. We're hopeful for successful weekends coming up."
Mekies is upset about the Tsunoda incident because it caused him to lose important track time with the upgraded RB car that was brought to Monza.
“Today’s race was largely controlled by Hulkenberg. Daniel received a five-second penalty for pushing him off the track, and later, Nico collided with Yuki, causing us to retire the car,” he stated.
"The most disappointing part about Yuki retiring from the race is that we missed out on 40 laps that could have given us better insights into the new updates we implemented."
"Daniel was given an additional 10-second penalty because we failed to properly carry out the initial one."
"Our protocols will need to be reexamined in light of this situation, and we must take lessons from the error we made today. Though such incidents occur, our pit crew's performance has largely been outstanding this season."
