Red Bull’s Pierre Wache Raises Alarm for 2025: ‘Confidence is the Enemy
The technical director of Red Bull shared his concerns about 2025, stating, "I don't feel assured about that year because I believe our competitors are very fast."
The technical director of Red Bull has expressed a lack of confidence regarding the upcoming season, yet he believes that maintaining this mindset will ultimately be advantageous for the team.
Max Verstappen secured his fourth consecutive F1 drivers' title, although Red Bull faced significant challenges from McLaren this season, losing the clear advantage they had last year.

McLaren and Ferrari have surpassed Red Bull in the constructors' championship standings.
In the end, Red Bull's impressive performance at the beginning of 2024 was crucial for Verstappen to fend off Lando Norris' competition and secure the drivers' championship.
Pierre Wache, the technical director, expressed to Autosport his satisfaction with the recent enhancements made to the RB20, stating, "I believe we are pleased with the swift progress we have achieved."
However, Wache expressed concerns, stating, "I have doubts about 2025."
"I'm not feeling sure because I believe the others are really fast and competitive. It's going to be a battle throughout the entire year."
The individual responsible for designing Red Bull's 2025 vehicle, who will face increased attention following Adrian Newey's departure, is confident that his mindset will greatly benefit the team.
"If you feel sure about this business, you're doomed," he stated.
"Effort is essential, and every team member must put in hard work. Everyone is giving their best."
"The challenge lies in the sheer effort required by numerous individuals to extract even a tiny improvement and continuously enhance performance across the board."
"I lack confidence because if I were confident, I might become complacent, stop working hard, and ultimately fail to perform well."
Verstappen faced an unexpected streak of 10 races without a victory, while Norris posed a significant challenge to his chances of winning the championship.
However, Wache now recognizes when they comprehended the problems with the RB20.
He expressed that Monza was undoubtedly a crucial moment and a turning point for them.
"It brought attention to a problem with the car that we hadn't noticed before, or perhaps we had noticed it but only had suspicions and assumptions."
In the coming year, McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes aim to challenge Red Bull's determination.
In the meantime, Newey is set to start his role at Aston Martin, where the ultimate aim is to create the top-performing vehicle in line with the 2026 regulations.

General Motors’ $450 Million Entry Fee: A Record-Breaking Move into the 2026 F1 Grid
General Motors is set to pay a staggering fee to join the Formula 1 world championship, according to reports.
According to reports, General Motors is set to pay an anti-dilution fee of $450 million (£358 million) to enter the Formula 1 circuit in 2026.
According to BBC Sport, "senior sources in F1" have disclosed that GM and the American company TWG Global will invest a significant amount to ensure their participation.

The announced amount is over twice the existing $200 million anti-dilution fee specified in Formula 1's current regulations.
Formula 1 teams are advocating for a significant rise in the fee that any new team would be required to pay under the upcoming Concorde Agreement, which is set to be finalized for the period starting in 2026.
The purpose of the anti-dilution fee is to provide compensation to the existing teams when a new participant enters the lineup and reduces the amount of prize money distributed.
Approximately 63% of Formula 1's revenue is distributed among the teams. However, with General Motors joining the competition through its Cadillac brand, this amount will now be divided among 11 teams instead of the previous 10.
On Monday, Formula 1 revealed that a preliminary deal has been made for General Motors to join the racing series in 2026.
Greg Maffei, the departing president and CEO of Liberty Media, which holds the commercial rights to Formula 1, expressed that integrating a prominent American brand such as GM/Cadillac into the F1 lineup and having GM as a potential future supplier of power units could enhance the sport's appeal and value, particularly as F1 continues to expand its presence in the United States.
"We acknowledge the substantial advancements made by General Motors and their collaborators in preparing to join Formula 1, thanks to their leadership."
"We are thrilled to proceed with the application for the GM/Cadillac team to join the Championship in 2026."
This comes as part of an effort led by the FIA and its president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, to increase the number of teams in Formula 1.
Ben Sulayem mentioned that General Motors is a major international brand and a dominant force in the original equipment manufacturing industry, collaborating with notable partners.
I completely back the initiatives taken by the FIA, Formula 1, GM, and the team to keep conversations going and aim for this preliminary agreement to advance the proposal for introducing a GM/Cadillac branded team to the lineup for the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship.
Every involved party, along with the FIA, will collaborate to guarantee that the process advances without any issues.

Revving Up for 2026: Who Will Drive General Motors’ F1 Ambitions?
Potential Drivers for GM's F1 2026 Team: A Preliminary List of 10 Candidates
As General Motors prepares to join the Formula 1 circuit as the eleventh team in 2026, the question arises: which drivers will they choose for their lineup?
As General Motors plans to join Formula 1 in 2026, the racing circuit could see the addition of two more spots for drivers.
On Monday, it was announced that General Motors and its Cadillac brand are poised to join as the 11th team in the world championship, following an agreement in principle with Formula 1.

This raises the question of who might be behind the wheel for the American automobile powerhouse in 2026.
Should General Motors seek a seasoned grand prix racer for one of their vehicles, Valtteri Bottas would emerge as an exceptional choice.
The Finnish driver, who has claimed victory in ten grand prix races, seems poised to take on the role of reserve driver for Mercedes in 2025 following his departure from Sauber. However, at 35 years old, he has no intention of remaining in a part-time position.
Bottas would eagerly take the chance to get back into a racing position, and the thrilling General Motors-Cadillac initiative is likely to entice him.
Another seasoned candidate might be Kevin Magnussen, who, similar to Bottas, does not have a seat for the F1 2025 season.
Considered an expert in midfield racing, the 32-year-old Danish driver has consistently delivered strong performances and scored points for the American team Haas since he first became part of the squad in 2017.
Yuki Tsunoda presents a fascinating and thrilling opportunity for General Motors.
Tsunoda has been passed over by Red Bull and seems unlikely to ever have the chance to join the main team, even though he has outperformed colleagues such as Daniel Ricciardo, who has recently been let go. Ricciardo, although an unexpected choice, is also an improbable candidate for General Motors.
A 24-year-old driver from Japan has a contract with Red Bull's affiliate team, RB, that lasts through the end of 2025. At that point, he will face a significant choice.
If Red Bull continues to dismiss Tsunoda, he might consider leaving the organization entirely. In such a case, General Motors could potentially provide him with an opportunity, especially if they decide to choose Honda as their temporary engine supplier.
Starting in 2026, Honda is set to supply engines for Aston Martin. This development may lead to General Motors being involved in a competitive situation with several parties vying to enlist Tsunoda.
A different and younger choice for General Motors is Franco Colapinto. The 21-year-old from Argentina, who had previously not attracted much attention in Formula 2, has suddenly gained immense popularity in F1.
After Logan Sargeant was dismissed from Williams, Colapinto stepped in to take his place for the latter half of the 2024 season, delivering a series of standout performances that have garnered attention.
He has challenged his well-regarded teammate Alex Albon and contributed five vital points to Williams' score in the crucial constructors' championship.
During his remarkably brief time in Formula 1, Colapinto has demonstrated ample talent and potential, indicating that he is worthy of securing a permanent position on the grid. However, as of now, he does not have such an opportunity for the 2025 season or any future seasons.
If General Motors is looking for an American driver, there are some intriguing options available.
Since Williams has judged Sargeant as lacking in performance, it would be unexpected for General Motors to consider offering him a second opportunity.
Colton Herta has been associated with a potential move to Formula 1 for a number of years. However, his prospects were hindered by an insufficient number of super licence points, thwarting his opportunity to possibly become part of Red Bull's team. Additionally, he was quickly connected to the first proposal from Andretti Global.
The Californian, who is 24 years old, has quickly made a name for himself as a standout talent in IndyCar. He has shown significant progress since 2019, when he became the youngest winner of a race in the series.
Herta has achieved an additional eight victories and recently completed his most successful season in IndyCar yet, securing second place in the 2024 championship standings.
General Motors might consider two other young American talents: Jak Crawford, a 19-year-old competing in Formula 2, and Ugo Ugochukwu, a 17-year-old who won the Macau Grand Prix and is part of McLaren's junior program. Nevertheless, these two drivers might not be ready to advance to Formula 1 by 2026.
Alex Palou, a highly successful IndyCar driver with three championship titles in the past four years, might be considered for a spot, as he has previously been associated with the upcoming Audi team and other potential Formula 1 projects.
Pato O'Ward, a prominent figure in IndyCar racing, has experienced driving a Formula 1 car through his position as a reserve driver for McLaren, participating in multiple FP1 sessions.
The winner of the 2018 Indy Lights championship, who has also secured seven victories in IndyCar races, maintains a direct connection to General Motors due to his existing partnership with Chevrolet.

Ferrari Leads Race to Power GM’s F1 Ambitions as Interim Engine Supplier
Leading candidate emerges for providing GM with temporary Formula 1 engine

General Motors has officially signed up as a producer of F1 power units with the goal of developing their own engine before the decade concludes.
In the interim, the American team will have to purchase an engine from another manufacturer until they are capable of making their own. This is not anticipated to happen before 2028 at the earliest.
Consequently, General Motors will need to address a transitional phase lasting at least two seasons following the establishment of their collaboration with Cadillac.
Starting in 2026, Ferrari will have an available engine supply slot as Sauber transitions into Audi, who intends to manufacture and operate their own engines. At present, Ferrari provides power units for both the Haas and Sauber Formula 1 teams.
Another clear possibility for General Motors could be Honda.
The Japanese company is the current engine supplier for Red Bull and their affiliated team, RB.
The team located in Milton Keynes has established its own internal engine department called Red Bull Powertrains. In partnership with Ford, Red Bull's power unit will make its first appearance in 2026.
In 2026, Aston Martin will receive engines from Honda, which will also have the ability to supply power units to additional customer teams.
1978 Formula 1 world champion Mario Andretti is poised to join the team's board as a director in a non-executive capacity. However, he will not participate in the daily management activities.
Michael Andretti, his son, will no longer serve as the team leader following his decision to withdraw from the position.
The American team has begun its initiative to recruit seasoned Formula 1 professionals, enlisting former Renault members Nick Chester, Pat Symonds, and Rob White to participate in the endeavor.

Max Verstappen Faces Renewed Rivalry: F1 Contenders Declare ‘Nobody Is Unbeatable’ as New Season Looms
F1 competitors caution Max Verstappen that 'no one is invincible'
According to Formula 1 competitors, Max Verstappen, who recently secured his fourth world championship, can indeed be defeated.
Competitors of Max Verstappen are confident that the Red Bull racer can be defeated, even after he secured his fourth straight Formula 1 world title.
Max Verstappen secured the championship title with two races still to go, thanks to his fifth-place performance at last weekend's Las Vegas Grand Prix, which gave him an unbeatable lead over his competitor, Lando Norris.

Verstappen began the season with a strong performance, securing victories in seven out of the first ten races. However, following that initial success, the Dutch driver has managed to win just one more race.
George Russell, a driver for Mercedes, secured a dominant victory in Las Vegas and emphasized that "no one is invincible."
Russell mentioned that there are periods when certain teams and drivers are so dominant that others might doubt their ability to compete against them. However, it's crucial to maintain confidence in one's own abilities.
"From my perspective, when I partnered with Lewis, I considered him the best ever. And, honestly, Max is on the same level as Lewis. So, yes, I have complete confidence in my ability to compete against him if we had the same equipment."
Carlos Sainz of Ferrari, who secured the third position, agreed with the statements made by Russell.
Carlos Sainz expressed his admiration for Max's performance this year, but noted that the latter part of the season demonstrated how, when the teams have more similar equipment, they can truly compete with one another and present challenges for their opponents.
When people are stressed, they tend to make errors. They begin to voice grievances about their vehicles and express their dissatisfaction through the media. The key factor here is how well one handles pressure.
"When you lack a lead of two or three tenths over your closest competitor or team member, the pressure quickly increases, and it's a reminder that everyone is just human."
Following his fourth consecutive title defense, Verstappen is looking forward to a "significant challenge" in the upcoming season.
He expressed great pride in how the team remained united during those challenging races where they faced defeat.
"We have numerous plans for the upcoming year. Some adjustments were no longer possible this year, so those will be addressed next year. My hope is that these changes will make the car easier to handle and increase its competitiveness, as I am aware that our competitors are also making progress."
"A major conflict is anticipated in the coming year."

F1 competitors caution Max Verstappen, stating that 'nobody is invincible'
Formula 1 racers contend that Max Verstappen, who recently secured his fourth world championship title, can indeed be defeated.
Competitors of Max Verstappen think they can still defeat the Red Bull racer, even though he has secured a fourth straight Formula 1 world title.
Securing fifth position at the Las Vegas Grand Prix last weekend allowed Verstappen to establish an unbeatable advantage over his main competitor, Lando Norris, ensuring he clinched the championship title with two races still left in the season.

Following his fourth consecutive title defense, Verstappen is looking forward to a "significant competition" in the upcoming season.
He expressed great pride in the way everyone remained united during the extremely challenging races that resulted in losses.
"We have numerous plans for the upcoming year. Some modifications we couldn't implement this year, so we're saving them for next year. My hope is that these changes will make the car easier to drive and enhance its competitiveness, as I am aware that our competitors are also actively working on improvements."

Martin Brundle Challenges Lewis Hamilton’s Las Vegas GP Assertion, Highlights George Russell’s Dominance
Martin Brundle challenges Lewis Hamilton's statement by bringing up a point about George Russell. Brundle noted that Hamilton mentioned after the race that if he had begun at the front, he would have easily won.
Martin Brundle has expressed his disagreement with Lewis Hamilton's claim that a better starting position could have led to his victory at the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Starting from pole position, Russell maintained the lead for most of the race, with the exception of a short period when he made a pit stop, allowing Hamilton to move to the front.
Hamilton attributed his inability to win the grand prix to his disappointing performance in the qualifying session, which resulted in him starting in 10th place.
In his piece for Sky Sports, Brundle noted, "George delivered a confident showing, proving himself to be a key figure in steering the team forward."
Lewis Hamilton, driving the other Mercedes, displayed similar speed, although he occasionally veered off onto the escape routes.
Unfortunately for him, he experienced two disappointing laps during the final qualifying session, as the rear of his car lost grip, resulting in him securing a modest 10th place start.
After the race, he mentioned that if he had started in the front position, he would have easily won, a statement that caught Russell off guard.
It's clear that Russell could have gone faster if it had been necessary.
Despite the tough competition, Lewis delivered an impressive performance, skillfully maneuvering past strong rivals to secure second place, ultimately crossing the finish line only seven seconds behind the leader.
"The supporters correctly chose him as the driver of the day, and he addressed recent doubts from some critics regarding whether he was past his prime."
Russell's showing in Las Vegas is likely to boost Mercedes' confidence that he can take over as their lead driver from Hamilton in 2025.
Next year, newcomer Kimi Antonelli is set to take over the position left by Hamilton, who is moving to Ferrari
In the midst of all the championship excitement, it's hard not to feel sympathy for George Russell. He secured an impressive pole position during qualifying and went on to control the race. Brundle expressed these sentiments in his writing.
For the majority of the 50-lap race, he maintained such a significant lead that our attention was mostly on the intense competition happening in his wake. This triumph marked George's third win in a Grand Prix.
From the first laps of the initial practice session, Mercedes displayed impressive speed, ultimately dominating every session of the event.
The team acknowledged, with some humility, that they didn't fully understand why their car performed effectively on the icy track, aligning with the vehicle's erratic behavior throughout the season.
For ten years, James worked as a sports reporter for Sky Sports, where he reported on a wide range of topics including American sports, soccer, and Formula 1 racing.

At a future date, General Motors plans to provide engines.
A release from Formula 1 indicated: "Today, Formula 1 revealed that it has provisionally agreed with General Motors (GM) to assist in introducing GM/Cadillac as the eleventh team to the Formula 1 lineup in 2026."
Greg Maffei, who serves as the President and CEO of Liberty Media, expressed that the ongoing expansion of Formula 1 in the United States has always made them think that including a notable American brand like GM/Cadillac in the lineup, along with GM potentially providing power units in the future, could enhance the sport's appeal and value.
We acknowledge the substantial advancements made by General Motors and their collaborators as they prepare to join Formula 1.
"The GM/Cadillac team is thrilled to advance with their application to join the Championship in 2026."
Stefano Domenicali, who serves as the President and CEO of Formula 1, expressed that the dedication of General Motors and Cadillac to this initiative is a significant and encouraging sign of how the sport is progressing.
"We are eager to witness the development and advancement of this project, confident that all parties will fully cooperate and provide their support."
The head of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, expressed his support, stating: "General Motors is an influential international brand and a major player among original equipment manufacturers, collaborating with notable partners. I completely back the initiatives taken by the FIA, Formula 1, GM, and the team to continue discussions and strive for a preliminary agreement to advance this proposal, aiming to introduce a GM/Cadillac branded team to the starting lineup of the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship."
Every group involved, including the FIA, will keep collaborating to make sure the process moves forward without any issues.
Mark Reuss, the President of General Motors, expressed that Formula 1 represents the highest level of motorsport, requiring cutting-edge innovation and superior performance. He stated that General Motors and Cadillac are proud to be part of this leading racing series and are dedicated to participating with enthusiasm and honesty to enhance the experience for racing enthusiasts globally.
"This provides us with an international platform to showcase GM's advanced engineering skills and technological innovation like never before."
Dan Towriss, who leads TWG Global's motorsport division, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with General Motors to introduce an energetic impact in Formula 1.
We are bringing together an exceptional team that will represent American creativity and provide race fans globally with memorable experiences. We are grateful to the FIA and FOM for backing our application and acknowledging the contributions we can offer to the championship.
What is the situation with Andretti? The team, managed by Michael Andretti, the son of former F1 champion Mario Andretti, has been making efforts for a considerable time to secure a spot in the racing lineup.
The FIA gave the green light to Andretti, but Formula 1 rejected them, stating that they did not bring enough value to the current 10 teams.
Michael Andretti attempted to leverage the United States Congress to gain an advantage in the conflict.
However, he has resigned from his leadership position, paving the way for Dan Towriss to take over as the primary leader.
Towriss and General Motors collaborated and have now made significant progress towards entering Formula 1.
James spent ten years as a sports reporter at Sky Sports, where he covered a wide range of topics including American sports, soccer, and Formula 1 racing.

Legend Returns: Mario Andretti Joins GM-Cadillac’s Historic 2026 F1 Entry as Director
Mario Andretti's involvement has been disclosed as General Motors and Cadillac finalize an agreement to join Formula 1. The arrangement allows for an 11th team to enter the competition starting in 2026.
Mario Andretti is set to remain involved with General Motors as they make their way into Formula 1.
The group might not bear his well-known surname, and Michael Andretti's son will no longer occupy the top position he once had.

However, Mario Andretti is set to join the board of directors for the planned F1 team.
Formula 1 and the FIA have reached an agreement allowing Cadillac, supported by General Motors, to join as the 11th team in the competition.
The upcoming team is expected to join in 2026.
Mario Andretti expressed that his initial passion was for Formula 1, and even after seven decades, the F1 paddock remains where he feels most content.
"I am incredibly excited about Cadillac, Formula 1, Mark Walter, and Dan Towriss."
"Being active at this point in my life feels surreal, and I have to remind myself it's not a dream."
Mario Andretti is the last American to win a Formula 1 championship.
Michael, his son, played a pivotal role in an effort to secure a spot for the Andretti team on the Formula 1 grid.
Despite receiving approval from the FIA, they were unable to persuade the existing 10 F1 teams, who expressed doubts about the benefits that would be introduced.
Michael Andretti fought for a spot in Formula 1 by seeking support from the US Congress, a move that faced skepticism from several team leaders.
In the previous month, he withdrew from his leadership role with the Andretti Global team.
"Countless cherished memories were made while leading this organization, and I feel immense pride in what we have achieved," he stated back then.
"However, years of relentless effort inevitably require sacrifices, and after careful consideration and reflection over recent months, I decided to slow down and pull back."
Dan Towriss assumed leadership of Andretti, succeeding his business partner.
Towriss, in collaboration with General Motors, has secured an agreement for a new team to join Formula 1 in 2026.
However, the iconic Mario Andretti will continue to be part of their board of directors.
