Renowned Formula 1 engineer Adrian Newey demonstrated his driving prowess at the 2024 Historic Monaco Grand Prix
Red Bull's departing Formula 1 engineering mastermind, Adrian Newey, took part in the racing at the Historic Monaco Grand Prix.
Adrian Newey, the departing CTO of Red Bull, demonstrated his prowess on the racetrack by participating in the 2024 Historic Monaco Grand Prix.
Newey stepped back from his role in crafting Formula 1 champions to compete in a 1968 Lotus 49B, a classic car he acquired in 2014, during the 14th edition of a competition that honors vintage grand prix vehicles.
The iconic Formula 1 car engineer didn't initially pull ahead but managed to navigate through the competitors, securing a fourth-place finish. This included executing a masterful maneuver to overtake another car at the renowned hairpin turn in Monte Carlo.
65-year-old Newey, clad in Red Bull racing attire, participated in the ‘Serie D’ category, which showcases classic cars from the years 1966 to 1972.
Double world champion Graham Hill secured the front starting spot and claimed victory at the 1968 Monaco Grand Prix in the Lotus 49B, a vehicle that is now a prized possession of Newey.

McLaren's chief executive, Zak Brown, participated in the event by racing his classic Williams FW07B in Race Category F, showcasing vehicles from the years 1977 to 1980.
Newey, acclaimed as the top designer in F1 history, is set to part ways with Red Bull in early 2025 after an almost 20-year tenure with the team.
It remains uncertain what Newey's next move will be, but there's strong speculation that he might join forces with Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari in the upcoming season.
At the recent Miami Grand Prix, Newey made it clear that he has "no plan" regarding his future after deciding to leave Red Bull.
Newey expressed to Sky, "I believe there's a moment when, as Forrest Gump put it, you just start feeling 'a bit weary'."
"I suppose during the winter, the idea crossed my mind occasionally, and then as things developed this year, I realized… I'm fortunate enough to not require work for my livelihood. My motivation for working is purely out of pleasure."
"I simply thought that this moment was suitable to pause, reflect on life, and spend some time exploring."
"At some stage, though I'm not sure exactly when, the idea might just hit me while I'm taking a shower: 'Okay, this is what I'm going to tackle next'. Currently, I have no specific plans."
