Red Bull Shifts to Attack Mode Against McLaren in F1 Title Chase
Red Bull promises to aggressively challenge McLaren and go all out in pursuit of the F1 championship title, following the loss of their leading position in the constructors' standings.
Following a drop to second place in the F1 constructors' standings, Christian Horner emphasizes that Red Bull needs to go on the offensive against McLaren.
McLaren has overtaken Red Bull in the team rankings following their performance in the F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where Oscar Piastri secured a win and Lando Norris made a remarkable comeback to finish fourth after starting 15th.
Max Verstappen faced a challenging race, finishing in fifth place, whereas his teammate, Sergio Perez, was involved in a significant crash towards the end of the race with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, leading to a loss of crucial points for Red Bull.
Transitioning from being pursued to pursuers, Red Bull now finds itself trailing McLaren by 20 points. Team Principal Horner emphasized that his team must now "give it their all" in an effort to retain their constructors' championship title.
"Horner admitted, "We faced a major setback in the constructors' championship today. Now, we're 20 points behind, so we need to go on the offensive."
"There are still seven races left, including two sprint races. With plenty of points available and a variety of circuits ahead, the competition is far from concluded."
"We're giving it our all. Currently, we're not on the defensive; instead, we're actively pursuing. This shifts the dynamics once more, and we plan to put our maximum effort into it."
For the third race in a row, Verstappen witnessed his lead in the championship dwindle, with Norris closing in by three points, reducing the distance to Verstappen to just 59 points.
Horner expressed his frustration over Verstappen's inability to surpass Norris after his poor qualifying performance in Baku.
"Horner expressed disappointment, noting that considering their performance in Monza and where Lando managed to qualify, it was frustrating not to have surpassed him in today's race."
"Fortunately, he hasn't racked up a significant amount of points yet. We need to capitalize on the knowledge we've gained so far, and there's still plenty of racing ahead of us."
