Quartararo Eyes Automatic Q2 at Favorite Track Assen, Yamaha Seeks Qualifying Edge Amid Contract Talks
Fabio Quartararo expresses a fondness for Assen, targeting direct Q2 qualification.
Quartararo looks to leverage past triumphs at Assen to secure a spot in Q2 directly.
Following 101 circuits at Yamaha's exclusive MotoGP trial in Valencia, Fabio Quartararo is looking to make progress at Assen.
Quartararo, who secured the championship in 2021, has shown strong performances at Assen, including a podium finish in a sprint race the previous year.
Yamaha has faced challenges while competing in the middle of the pack, making qualifying rounds crucial for Quartararo and his team-mate Alex Rins.
Quartararo has his sights set on achieving Q2 during the weekend, aiming for a spot through Friday's practice session.
"Assen ranks high on my list of preferred circuits," Quartararo expressed. "I'm optimistic that by Friday, we'll secure our spot directly in Q2."
"The confidential trial in the interval between the Dutch Grand Prix and the Italian Grand Prix yielded favorable results, so we're optimistic about contending for superior rankings."
Currently without a deal for 2025, Rins is aiming to continue his partnership with Yamaha, having switched to the Japanese manufacturer at the conclusion of 2023.
The ex-Suzuki competitor has shown notable prowess in consistently clinching positions for Q2 in the latest races.
Nonetheless, the Spanish racer has struggled to convert promising starting spots into significant outcomes.
Ahead of the upcoming weekend, Rins expressed: "Following a rather hectic three-week break, I'm truly looking forward to getting back to business in Assen."
"I'm genuinely excited about this circuit. It's a great fit for me, and I can't wait to be there, experiencing this legendary track."
