Pramac Yamaha’s 2025 Vision: Campinoti Eyes Experienced Trio for MotoGP Project
Pramac Yamaha's head lists trio of riders for 2025 season
"We're seeking seasoned riders for the initiative we're launching"
Paolo Campinoti, who owns the Pramac team, has identified three candidates for their upcoming Yamaha initiative.
Pramac has officially announced their switch from Ducati to Yamaha for the upcoming season, revealing two available spots in their refreshed MotoGP rider roster for 2025.
Jorge Martin has inked a deal with Aprilia for the upcoming season, and his current Pramac colleague, Franco Morbidelli, is not expected to return to Yamaha, the team that let him go last year.
"Campinoti mentioned to TNT Sports at Assen that the initiative they're undertaking requires skilled cyclists to elevate the bike to its desired standard."
"It's uncertain which racer we'll end up with."
"Definitely included in the lineup are Jack Miller, Miguel Oliveira, Fabio di Giannantonio…
"Yamaha's next agenda item is to scout for a talented rider."
Campinoti clarified if the ultimate choice regarding Pramac riders will be made by him or Yamaha: "We'll make the decision collaboratively.
"Definitely, next year, we'll seize what's currently available at no cost.
"Our strategy includes establishing a Moto2 team to nurture and promote emerging talents into MotoGP."
Campinoti characterized Pramac in 2025 as a "de facto factory team," indicating they will receive the same level of support and identical motorcycles as the Yamaha factory team.
"He maintained that it was all identical."
Campinoti dismissed the idea of bringing on board Joe Roberts, a Moto2 racer, for the 2025 season.
The future remains unclear for KTM's Miller, Oliveira of Trackhouse, and VR46's Di Giannantonio.
Miller is aware that his spot at KTM is no longer available, as they've filled his position in their premier team with Pedro Acosta, and subsequently announced Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini as the fresh faces in their revamped Tech3 roster.
Miller has expressed dissatisfaction with KTM's management of his circumstances, stating they assured him he was secure in his position, only to subsequently replace him.
Oliveira hasn't received an offer for a contract from Aprilia's Trackhouse initiative so far.
This season, the Trackhouse team's transition to being supported by a US-based group suggests they might bring fresh perspectives on selecting riders. Meanwhile, it seems more probable that Raul Fernandez, a fellow team member, will secure a contract renewal.
Di Giannantonio demonstrated remarkable performance in the last few races of the previous year with Gresini, and has maintained his strong form this season with VR46.
VR46's position within the Ducati team is undergoing a transformation following Pramac's departure. VR46 aims to acquire an available factory-spec Desmosedici. They've already parted ways with Marco Bezzecchi and have yet to announce their two riders for the 2025 season.
Yamaha has secured Fabio Quartararo with a long-term contract, and discussions are progressing well to extend the tenure of his teammate, Alex Rins.
