Pramac Boss Sheds Light on Ducati Split: Marc Marquez Decision and ‘Young Riders’ Jibe Key Factors
Pramac leader suggests that Ducati's choice regarding Marc Marquez was a crucial factor in their departure
Pramac chief's comment about "young riders" targets Ducati
The head of Pramac has given a significant clue about their departure from Ducati, which appears to be related to Marc Marquez.
The major talking point over the past few MotoGP rounds has been Ducati's choice to select Gresini's Marquez for its 2025 rider roster, passing over both Pramac's Jorge Martin and the current rider, Enea Bastianini.
This weekend, during the Dutch MotoGP, Pramac announced that they will end their 20-year partnership with Ducati and switch to becoming a Yamaha satellite team next season.
Pramac team principal Paolo Campinoti expressed to TNT Sports that they are genuinely pleased to be a part of the project.
"It might appear irrational to switch from the championship-winning bike to join Yamaha."
"They have a robust plan. We are confident that our collaboration can return Yamaha to its rightful place."
"They're pouring in significant funds and are an excellent organization."
"They have faith in the initiative focused on young riders, which Ducati appears to no longer support."
"Ultimately, it slightly altered the viewpoint."
The remark about ‘young riders’ alludes to Ducati's choice to select Marquez, who will be 32 next year and the second-oldest competitor in the lineup.
The choice resulted in the loss of Martin and Bastianini, two talents the Italian manufacturer had developed, to Aprilia and Tech3 KTM.
Pramac's Martin is leading the MotoGP championship, holding a 15-point advantage over Pecco Bagnaia following the sprint race at Assen on Saturday.
Pramac was aware that Martin would certainly not be with them next season. However, Marquez’s surprising declaration that he wouldn't consider joining the team in 2025, despite the chance of getting a factory bike, came as an unforeseen jolt. This led Ducati to extend him an official offer.
If Pramac had stayed with Ducati, their team next year would have been less competitive.
Pramac is set to start a new era by switching to Yamaha motorcycles.
Ducati's strategy of supporting young talent like Bagnaia, which broke their 15-year streak without a victory in 2022, has come to an end with the choice to bring Marquez on board.
Will they benefit from it?
