Pedro Acosta Faces Daunting Challenge to Break Marc Marquez’s Youngest MotoGP Winner Record at Sachsenring
Pedro Acosta concedes that surpassing Marc Marquez's record to become the youngest MotoGP race victor "will be challenging."
Pedro Acosta will have his last opportunity to set the record as the youngest MotoGP race winner this weekend at Sachsenring.
Nonetheless, he still faces two significant challenges. The initial one is that Ducati has been unbeatable in recent competitions.
Ducati has secured victories in five out of the last six races, including sprint events, with Francesco Bagnaia clinching all five wins. Additionally, Ducati riders have occupied all three podium spots in the last five Grand Prix races.
"We'll have to wait and see," Acosta remarked to MotoGP.com. "It's a fact that we'll be looking to establish our strategy for the weekend.
"Defeating him won't be simple, but we'll see how the weekend unfolds and what we can achieve."
"It's pleasant to have this record, but it's not our focus."
"We must concentrate, perform well, and regain our competitive edge."
KTM's performance in the latest races hasn't met expectations, but Acosta has continued to shine, even though he crashed on the last lap of the Dutch MotoGP.
High-speed turns have posed a specific challenge, yet the impressive newcomer is confident that Sachsenring is well-suited for the RC16.
When questioned about his confidence in their prospects, Acosta responded: "Yes, I believe so. We face more challenges on fast tracks, but on winding tracks like Sachsenring, our bike performs somewhat better."
Marquez secured his inaugural MotoGP win during only his second race at the Circuit of the Americas in 2013, when he was 20 years and 63 days old.
Acosta will be older than 20 years and 63 days when MotoGP competes at Silverstone in early August.
