Nigel Mansell Criticizes Ferrari’s “Short-Sighted” Decision on Adrian Newey, Predicts Bright Future for Aston Martin
Ferrari has been criticized for lacking foresight by failing to fulfill Adrian Newey's requirements. "I have a deep affection for Ferrari, truly, I do. However, they missed out on a golden chance. Securing Adrian Newey almost guarantees a team several outstanding seasons."
1992 Formula One world champion Nigel Mansell believes Ferrari lacked foresight in their efforts to recruit Adrian Newey.
Last week, Aston Martin announced Adrian Newey as their new managing technical partner.
Starting in 2025, Newey will lead Aston Martin's technical crew as Lawrence Stroll aims to steer the Silverstone team towards championship success soon.
Upon the announcement of Newey's exit from Red Bull in Miami, Ferrari was considered the leading contender to secure his services.
Nonetheless, it's understood that Ferrari chose not to meet Aston Martin's proposal, opting out of engaging in a "bidding war."
Mansell, who was behind the wheel for Ferrari during the 1989 to 1990 seasons, thinks the Italian squad missed out on a chance.
Mansell revealed exclusively to Crash.net and Sportscasting, saying, "The moment it came to my knowledge that Ferrari hesitated over the salary Adrian was asking for, I found their perspective to be lacking foresight."
"I'm a huge fan of Ferrari, truly. Yet, they missed a golden chance. Securing Adrian Newey almost guarantees a couple of great years ahead. Aston Martin, in my view, has made an exceptional move by bringing him on board.
"Truly, it will be captivating to see, alongside sports enthusiasts globally, the speed at which it emerges into prominence."
Mansell is firm in his belief that Newey transferring to Aston Martin will inject him with "a bit more vigor," anticipating that he might "achieve something quite remarkable" upon his arrival next year.
"He added that many might not realize Adrian probably wasn't completely content with his recent years at Red Bull. He highlighted the remarkable work Adrian accomplished there. He believes that now, with Adrian being in the UK and part of Aston Martin, he'll likely discover renewed vigor and clearer focus."
"The prospect of hearing those words can be daunting for everyone, given his remarkable performance."
"Should he be at ease, and I believe he is with Aston Martin, keep an eye out. I anticipate he might achieve something extraordinary."
