MotoGP Drama at Assen: Jack Miller Takes Responsibility for Collision with Jorge Martin
Jack Miller discusses incident with Martin: "Regrettable, but clearly my mistake"
Jack Miller: "I glanced back to see what was behind me… And just then, Jorge was decelerating"
A confusion involving MotoGP championship frontrunner Jorge Martin and Jack Miller resulted in the KTM rider grazing the side of the Pramac Ducati during the final moments of Friday's practice session at Assen.
Martin and Miller were both on leisurely laps, with Martin leading. Meanwhile, several other riders were positioning themselves to catch a draft behind Francesco Bagnaia.
The event happened when the Australian looked back to ensure he wasn't in anyone's way, just as Martin slowed down because Bagnaia was reducing his speed in front of him.
Unable to see properly, Miller barely missed hitting the back wheel of the Spanish rider but ended up with an exhaust burn on his arm and some aerodynamic damage, causing him to head to the pits.
“We encountered a few minor problems today, and the incident with Jorge just summed it all up," Miller commented.
"Luckily for both of us, we remained awake. It wasn't anything major."
"I simply turned to see what was behind me to ensure I wasn't obstructing anyone. Just then, Jorge began to reduce his speed."
"It was regrettable, but clearly my responsibility."
Martin remained unaffected by the interaction and was able to proceed without any issues.
He explained that he was seeking a favorable draft and decided to trail behind Pecco on the left side of the track.
"I’m not sure what Miller did, but we made contact. It didn’t bother me, so I continued on."
After what Martin considered a challenging day, he managed to finish in fifth place, earning a direct spot in Qualifying 2. Meanwhile, Miller ended up in 18th position.
