MotoGP Aragon Recap: Brad Binder’s Rolling Burnout and Jack Miller’s Last-Lap Heartbreak
Brad Binder: "I ended up doing a rolling burnout once more!" Jack Miller: "Rins edged me out."
Brad Binder: "I had a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his most successful MotoGP weekend since the season began in Qatar, finishing in fourth and sixth place at Aragon.
Even though he spun off the line in both races, he still managed to secure seventh place on what was the cleaner side of a messy grid.
During the middle stages of the race, Binder followed closely behind the rookie Pedro Acosta. This pursuit turned into a contest for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained just beyond grasp.
Last night, I devised a solid strategy to avoid spinning out at the start, and I once more executed a rolling burnout just like the day before!" Binder said with a smile.
"I was able to navigate through and overtake some racers. It was challenging to avoid errors since the front tire was overheating while following others until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time while exiting corners since I couldn't enter them quickly due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired, and by the end, the left side of the tire was completely worn out."
“I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but there was no more traction from the back tires!”
"We made notable progress this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Fellow racer Jack Miller had a strong start, moving up from 15th place on the grid to eighth by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian soon faced difficulties with rear tire traction.
Following a last-lap overtake by Alex Rins that pushed him down to tenth, he was later penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tyre pressure violations, resulting in a final placement of 15th.
"That was quite a lengthy race," Miller remarked. "The track conditions were different once more; it has been fairly dirty throughout the weekend, but today it felt even more slippery."
"I gave it my all. It was challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside incident while exiting the final turn."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were some challenges transitioning from the edge to the center of the tire, but I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We'll keep working hard."
"I’m pleased to finish in the top ten, but it was tough to be overtaken by Rins on the back straight during the final lap. I tried my best to maintain precision, but I didn’t get a good acceleration, and he managed to outpace me on the back straight."
"We will return to Misano."
KTM will have five riders this weekend as test rider Pol Espargaro joins as a wild-card entry.
"Head to Misano now, keeping in mind the upcoming test and Pol's wildcard entry which will be beneficial for us moving forward," stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, who is currently ranked fifth in the world championship standings.
Miller, who may soon be officially announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, currently holds 15th place and trails Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
