Mick Schumacher Eyes Sauber Seat for 2025: A Plan B in the Horizon Amidst F1’s Final Lineup Decisions
Mick Schumacher Contends for Final Open F1 Seat
"Always Have a Backup Plan Ready"
Mick Schumacher aims to secure a seat with Sauber for the 2025 season.
This marks the final open spot in the driver roster before the 2025 Formula 1 lineup is officially announced.
Michael Schumacher's offspring has suggested that he is a competitor aspiring to be chosen.
He revealed to Sky Germany that there is an alternative strategy in place: "Should the need arise and the initial plan fails, I will address it then."
"Keep Plan B as a fallback option. Currently, its direction is unclear to me."
Schumacher stressed that a decision from Sauber is expected soon.
However, their existing driver, Valtteri Bottas, remains a top choice as well.
"Organizing for what lies ahead is certainly at the top of my agenda, especially since it's beginning to have that Christmas feel – it's approaching fast, so it's crucial to have everything in order," Bottas mentioned while in Singapore.
Bottas, aged 35, has consistently emphasized his preference for a long-term agreement over a brief engagement.
Franco Colapinto, making a notable impact at Williams since stepping in for Logan Sargeant halfway through the season, might also be taken into account.
Schumacher offers a compelling option.
Sauber, set to transition completely into Audi by 2026, has secured Nico Hulkenberg for the upcoming season, ensuring a German representation on their team.
Audi, a powerful German carmaker, aims to tap into the legacy of a national icon by involving his son to enhance their initiative.
Schumacher represents a more youthful alternative compared to Bottas.
Since being released by Haas at the close of 2022 following two seasons with them, Schumacher has been seeking a return to the F1 racing circuit.
At the time, team leader Guenther Steiner pointed to the regularity of Schumacher's accidents as a concern.
Schumacher has transitioned into the role of Mercedes' third driver for a duration of two years, contributing significantly through simulator work.
This year, he became part of Alpine's endurance team and competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
However, Schumacher was overlooked for an Alpine F1 seat, as Jack Doohan was chosen instead.
