Stellantis temporarily halted the manufacturing of their compact electric vehicle on September 12 due to a lack of interest from consumers. Reuters announced on Tuesday that the company does not plan to restart production until November 1.

The initial stoppage in production was scheduled for a four-week period, with plans to resume operations on October 11th.

Stellantis, the conglomerate overseeing Fiat, cut back on the manufacturing activities at their Mirafiori facility located in Turin, Italy during February, attributing the decision to a lackluster market interest in the electric version of the Fiat 500. This adjustment led to the factory adopting a new schedule of just one eight-hour shift that was scaled back, in contrast to its former routine of two shifts.

Stellantis' top executive, Carlos Tavares, is scheduled for discussions with members of Italy's legislative body in the coming week, focusing on the company's manufacturing activities within Italy, reports Reuters.

According to Reuters, Stellantis has reaffirmed its intention to invest 100 million euros (equivalent to $111 million) in the development of an upgraded battery pack and the production of a new 500 Hybrid model slated for release in early 2026, regardless of the recent halt in production.
