**Michele Pirro Clinches Seventh Italian Superbike Title with Dominant Season**
Michele Pirro clinches his seventh Italian Superbike championship
Ducati MotoGP's test rider, Michele Pirro, has claimed another victory in the CIV Italian Superbike series.
Michele Pirro, who serves as the primary test rider for Ducati Corse's MotoGP and WorldSBK teams, has secured his seventh championship in the CIV Italian Superbike series.
Michele Pirro, representing the Barni Ducati team—the same team that competes with Danilo Petrucci in World Superbike and Yari Montella in World Supersport—clinched the championship last weekend at Mugello.
Michele Pirro secured his seventh championship in the CIV Superbike category, adding to his previous titles won in 2015, 2016 through 2019, and 2021 to 2022. This latest victory also marked his 10th overall championship in the CIV series, complementing his Superstock 1000 titles from 2007 and 2008, as well as his Supersport title from 2009.
This achievement places Pirro third in the history of CIV titles, trailing only Tarquinio Provini with 11 titles and Giacomo Agostini, who tops the list with 16 titles, including 10 consecutive 500cc championships from 1968 to 1977.
This title follows a contentious conclusion to the 2023 CIV Superbike season at Imola, when Lorenzo Zanetti, Pirro's competitor for the championship, collided with Pirro at the Variante Bassa. This incident caused Pirro, who has since become a seven-time Superbike Champion, to fall, ultimately allowing Zanetti to secure the title.
Zanetti has chosen not to defend his CIV title this year and has shifted his focus to competing in the IDM German Superbike Championship. He began the IDM season strongly with a victory in the first race at the Sachsenring. However, since then, his only other podium finish was in the second race of the latest round at the Nurburgring. Meanwhile, the majority of wins have been secured by Ilya Mikhalchik, who has clinched his fourth IDM Superbike title this year.
Zanetti's absence has aligned with a remarkable season for Pirro. Over five rounds, rider #51 has secured victories in seven out of 10 races. Alessandro Delbianco emerged victorious when Pirro did not complete Race 1 during the initial Mugello round and when Pirro finished fourth in Race 2 at the second Misano round. Most recently, Luca Bernardi won Race 2 at Mugello last weekend, while Pirro secured the championship title.
The concluding round of the 2024 CIV Superbike season is scheduled to be held at Imola from September 27 to 29.
