Maverick Vinales Sets Sights on Victory at German MotoGP with Record-Breaking Practice Session
Maverick Vinales sets a decisive strategy to aim for the win following a commanding performance on Friday
Maverick Vinales expressed, “Should the race happen today, we would be contenders at the forefront. Achieving that is our goal.”
Maverick Vinales is eager for higher temperatures as the weekend of the German MotoGP progresses, yet he believes that even without a rise in temperature, he has the potential to compete against Ducati as an Aprilia team member.
Vinales clinched the leading position during the second practice session at Sachsenring, breaking the lap record while establishing a three-tenths of a second gap ahead of his rivals.
Echoing his performance at COTA earlier in the year, Vinales once more showcased his prowess by fending off the competition from Ducati.
"After completing the lap, Vinales remarked, "That was a solid lap. I gave it my all at every point on the circuit. Overall, it was a positive Friday. The conditions presented challenges, particularly due to the unpredictable wind and low temperatures.
"Throughout the circuit, there was an instant decrease in temperature. However, we were able to maintain a positive sensation across various conditions and I was well-prepared for the extended race."
"In the morning, our attention shifts to the sprint race, followed by aiming for a flawless lap in the qualifying round by giving it our all."
Vinales led the second practice session, finishing 0.340 seconds faster than Jorge Martin. However, his top position might have been contested by Marc Marquez if not for a significant crash that resulted in Marquez needing to go to the medical center towards the end of the session.
Despite facing conditions that typically don't favor the Aprilia, Vinales showed remarkable speed, boosting his confidence for the upcoming Sunday race.
Vinales remarked: "I've pointed out previously that occasionally the motorcycle exhibits variations from the previous year. My perception is that the motorcycle now performs more reliably across various circuits, which is beneficial for enhancing both confidence and consistency."
"I accelerate significantly; for some reason, I was compelled to let it drift and maintain a smooth slide into the curve."
"At the Sachsenring, this aspect is crucial. In the first section, I'm not performing well. I find it challenging to decelerate the motorcycle, so we have some improvements to make tomorrow."
"Preparation is key. With the rise in temperature comes increased traction, which is beneficial."
"Once I gain slightly better traction, achieving the lap time becomes simpler for me. I’m hoping for improved grip conditions tomorrow."
"Should Sunday bring cold weather, we are prepared with the necessary information. Should we have the opportunity to race today, we aim to be leaders. Achieving a leading position is our goal."
