Marquez Cautions Against High Hopes for Sachsenring Showdown Amid MotoGP Title Chase
Marc Marquez cautions about having "impractical expectations" for his comeback at Sachsenring
Marc Marquez: "To expect to be here and leading in every session is to have impractical expectations."
Marc Marquez, despite his eight world championships, has not secured a victory with Ducati in MotoGP. However, he is expected to have his strongest chance to do so this season at the Sachsenring circuit.
Marquez, unable to hit his top performance in Assen, still holds the third spot in the championship standings but has slipped 58 points behind Jorge Martin.
In recent competitions, the GP23 hasn't been able to keep up with the GP24's performance. However, the Sachsenring circuit, known for its narrow and winding layout, might level the playing field for Marquez, given his impressive history at this German track.
Inquired about his prospects, Marquez stated, “Let's wait and see. The forecasts are more favorable than they were last Thursday in Assen. However, my expectation is that with an ideal weekend and the right approach, I might stand a chance to compete against these two competitors.
"In the recent competitions, they held a slight edge, with Pecco advancing even further ahead, outpacing the rest significantly. I'm committed to giving it my all."
"I'm eager to find out if competing at Sachsenring will give me the opportunity to challenge these competitors."
Marquez further mentioned that in order to surpass Martin or Francesco Bagnaia, who have both outperformed him in the latest races, he will have to execute his riding flawlessly.
Marquez stated, “Absolutely! To seize the opportunity, I must execute flawlessly at Sachsenring, just as I have done previously.
"However, upon my arrival here, previously I had been a strong competitor across all circuits, but it was in this location where I truly stood out."
"Currently, they've gained speed on different circuits, so it's time to find out if I possess the skill and pace to compete against them. Contrary to what many believe, this weekend won't be a walk in the park."
Marquez cautions about setting "impractical hopes"
Having clinched victory 11 times at the German track, it's hardly surprising that numerous people are predicting Marquez to secure two wins this weekend.
However, according to Marquez, Bagnaia's performance in Assen, where he dominated all sessions except for the morning warm-up, is simply too incredible.
Marquez expressed, "Indeed, arriving at a favored circuit does make everything appear more pleasant. Reflecting on the previous year, that weekend was a learning curve for me, teaching me the importance of setting realistic expectations."
"My previous statements outlined the genuine expectations. On the other hand, believing we can consistently come out on top in every session is a notion rooted in unrealistic expectations."
"We reached a track where I've had numerous victories before, but today, things are different. Currently, there are two competitors who, particularly in the recent races starting from Montmelo, have upped their pace, and I've found myself unable to keep up with them."
