Marc Marquez Urges Caution Against Unrealistic Expectations Ahead of Sachsenring MotoGP
Marc Marquez cautions about having "unrealistic expectations" for his return to the Sachsenring.
Marc Marquez stated, "Expecting to be here and leading every session is unrealistic."
Marc Marquez, an eight-time world champion, has not yet secured a victory for Ducati in MotoGP. However, he is expected to have his best chance of the season at the Sachsenring circuit.
Marquez, who was unable to perform at his peak in Assen, is still in third place in the championship standings but now trails Jorge Martin by 58 points.
Although the GP23 has lagged behind the GP24 in recent races, the Sachsenring circuit may provide Marquez with an opportunity to compete equally. This is due to both his impressive history at the German track and its tight, winding layout.
When questioned about his prospects, Marquez responded, "We'll have to wait and see. The outlook is more favorable compared to last Thursday in Assen. However, my prediction is that, if everything goes smoothly and we take the right steps, then perhaps I'll have the opportunity to compete with these two."
"In recent competitions, they have consistently been a step ahead, with Pecco being two steps ahead of everyone else. I will strive to give my absolute best."
"Let's find out if being at Sachsenring will give me the opportunity to compete with these guys."
Marquez mentioned that he must ride flawlessly to beat Martin or Francesco Bagnaia, as both have been performing better than him in the latest races.
Marquez stated, "Absolutely! To have a shot, I need to ride flawlessly at Sachsenring, just like I have previously."
“At that time, when I got here in the past, I was competitive on every race track, and that’s where I stood out.”
“They’ve been quicker on different tracks, so we’ll find out if I can match their pace and compete with them. Contrary to popular belief, this weekend won’t be straightforward.”
Marquez cautions about "unrealistic expectations"
Having clinched victory 11 times at the German track, it's understandable why many anticipate Marquez to secure another win this weekend.
Marquez believes that having a weekend like Bagnaia's in Assen, where he led every session except the morning warm-up, is quite unrealistic.
“When you get to a track you enjoy, everything seems better,” Marquez remarked. “Last year, I picked up a lot of lessons over that weekend, one of which was to set realistic goals.”
"Actual expectations are what I've previously mentioned. Imagining that we should always be at the top in every session is not realistic."
"We've come to a track where I've had many victories before, but focusing on the present, there are two riders who have recently picked up their pace, particularly starting from the Montmelo race, and I haven't been able to keep up with them."
