Marc Marquez Targets Top Three Finish in MotoGP Championship, Rates Season 8/10
Marc Marquez considers finishing third in the championship a realistic goal, rating his first nine MotoGP performances for Gresini Ducati as "8 out of 10".
Marc Marquez has awarded himself a score of 8 out of 10 for his current showings at Gresini Ducati, as he prepares to compete with Enea Bastianini for the third spot in the MotoGP World Championship.
Marquez is presently in third place in the rankings, trailing Francesco Bagnaia by 56 points and Jorge Martin by 24 points, while leading Bastianini by 11 points, who will be succeeded by the Spaniard for the factory Ducati seat in 2025.
"Reflecting on the early season, Marquez described it as positive but admitted it wasn't exceptional due to some errors. He shared these thoughts following his impressive comeback from 13th position to secure his fifth podium finish for Gresini in nine races, this Sunday at the Sachsenring."
Aiming for a top-three finish in the championship could be a wise goal, given the challenge of staying ahead of Enea. He's a speedy competitor.
"Besides, our primary focus for the latter half of the season should be to ensure we have a thoroughly successful [without issues] weekend.
"We'll continue to battle and learn from Ducati's leading pair, Martin and Bagnaia, who have a slight edge in speed over us."
Marquez aims to eliminate his errors as the MotoGP season resumes at Silverstone in the beginning of August, sharing his self-assessment:
"For myself, I'd rate it an eight [out of ten]. The season kicked off well, though there were some slip-ups. Notably, the incidents in Austin and during the Sprint race in Assen were the two major errors."
"The competitions were satisfactory, though our performance varied throughout the weekends."
"In Le Mans, we managed to pull through. We've had similar successes in other races as well, but our focus now is on achieving more consistency throughout the weekend, ensuring direct entry into Q2, and enhancing our performance on Saturdays."
Currently ranked as the second-best competitor in the world championship aboard a GP23 Ducati is VR46's Fabio di Giannantonio, trailing Marquez by 74 points in the eighth position.
Alex Marquez, who shares both a team and familial ties with Marc and recently accompanied him to the Sachsenring podium, currently holds the tenth position in the global championship standings.
