Marc Marquez Breaks Three-Year Winless Streak with ‘Perfect’ Aragon MotoGP Performance
Marc Marquez admitted that he "put pressure on himself" to achieve a "perfect" performance during the Aragon MotoGP weekend. He also mentioned that he didn't enjoy the Sprint because he knew how crucial the day was.
Last weekend at the Aragon MotoGP, Marc Marquez secured his first win in nearly three years, calling the weekend "perfect".
Marquez led all three practice sessions, secured pole position with a 0.8-second advantage, claimed a commanding victory in the Sprint, and finished the Grand Prix on Sunday five seconds ahead of Jorge Martin.
Marquez did not record a lap time during the Warm Up session, which was damp due to rain from Saturday night into Sunday morning, making it the only session he did not lead.
During the post-race press conference, Marquez described the weekend as flawless. "We were ahead in all the sessions, except for the Warm Up where, to be honest, I chose with my team to remain in the garage," he said.
Marquez discussed the intense emotions he experienced after nearly three years without a win and the sense of relief he felt when he crossed the finish line to secure his 60th victory in the premier class.
"In the race, we felt incredible right from the start," he remarked. "It was an extremely long race, and it was challenging to keep our emotions in check during the final laps. However, crossing the finish line felt like I had shed 3-4 kilograms."
"With each step, my back felt increasingly burdened, making this triumph truly unbelievable. Instantly, my thoughts turned to the entire journey we had undertaken, the people who supported me, my family, my girlfriend, and my brother Alex Marquez."
"They provided significant assistance, and the Gresini team, in particular, offered me a chance. I came in as a novice rider, aimed to give my all, and we achieved our goal. Now, we are setting new objectives and continuing forward."
Marquez established a significant lead during the race, allowing him to contemplate various matters in the closing laps.
“In the final three laps, I was already thinking about the podium,” he mentioned. “More than just the podium, the Gresini garage is always a lively and cheerful place; it’s always a celebration there.”
"Additionally, the most important aspect was the support from those around me. In challenging and intense situations, having a compassionate and caring team that feels the struggle even more deeply than I do truly made a significant impact."
"The celebration felt quite unusual, as the excitement and energy were greater in other races where we finished in second or third place. Today, it was more about feeling moved than a rush of adrenaline."
After leading every session except for the wet Warm Up on Sunday morning, Marquez confessed to feeling some pressure to finish his weekend with a Grand Prix win.
“I felt a lot of pressure today,” he remarked. “As you witnessed during the Sprint yesterday, I wasn’t having a good time because I understood that today was crucial and that I had a significant chance ahead of me.
"Therefore, I made an effort to stay concentrated. When you have the necessary speed, it appears that you can handle the circumstances, maintain consistency, and act intelligently; however, you are essentially the same person, but without the speed, managing the situation becomes extremely challenging."
"Let's aim to improve our speed in the upcoming races and try to compete closely with the leading racers."
Marquez sees this victory as on par with his win at the 2021 German Grand Prix, which marked his comeback after suffering an arm injury at the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix.
Marquez stated, "I consider it to be on the same level as my performance in Germany in 2021."
“When facing numerous injuries and tough times, victories hold a different kind of value.”
Certainly! Here's the text rewritten in my own words:
"I've won 60 times, but those two wins, along with my first victory in MotoGP, are the most significant because they boost your confidence in a unique way and provide that additional assurance."
"I hadn't felt well for a long while, and the laps this weekend were brief. I was simply riding effortlessly, maintaining a smooth flow, but I was particularly focused on avoiding any errors."
Despite it being Marquez's 12th race weekend with the Gresini Ducati team, he mentioned that he realized winning was achievable ever since he first rode the Desmosedici during the Valencia test at the end of 2023.
During the Valencia test, Marquez mentioned, "I understood that a race win is within reach. At that moment, I realized that we will have our chances. Competing for the championship is another matter, and we need to continue working towards that goal."
"However, during my time in Valencia, I began to realize that it would eventually come."
