**Leclerc Cautious Despite Ferrari’s Monza Win: ‘Not Enough’ to Challenge McLaren for Season’s Remainder**
Charles Leclerc cautions that the Ferrari upgrade is ‘insufficient’ for ‘winning races for the rest of the season.’
"Is it sufficient to secure victories for the remainder of the season? I don't believe so at this point, but we have made significant progress in the right direction."
Charles Leclerc has cautioned that Ferrari must enhance their performance in order to regularly compete with McLaren throughout the rest of the 2024 F1 season.
Leclerc secured his second win of the season by utilizing a one-stop strategy, outpacing McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
Prior to Piastri's second pit stop, Leclerc was trailing by five seconds, underscoring that McLaren had the fastest car at the Monza circuit.
Ferrari unveiled a major set of improvements for the Italian Grand Prix, aimed at addressing their issues with car bouncing.
During the FIA press conference following the Monza race, Leclerc advised Ferrari to exercise "caution".
“We need to be careful,” he stated. “Following Monaco, I believe we experienced the four most challenging races of the season, as Monaco's conditions were uniquely suited to our car at that moment. Similarly, Monza is a very distinct and unique circuit.”
“There were many straight sections and few turns on the track. We equipped a rear wing specifically designed for this course, which contributed to our victory today. Additionally, we introduced another upgrade that I believe has brought us closer to McLaren's performance. However, I don't think this will make us the dominant car for the rest of the season on different tracks.”
"We still have plenty to accomplish, but I'm thrilled to have secured a win here in Italy."
Although Leclerc has faced challenges since the Monaco race, he is only 24 points behind Norris in the drivers' standings.
In the constructors' championship, Ferrari is trailing Red Bull by only 39 points.
However, Leclerc has minimized expectations, referencing similar discussions about a championship bid after his victory in Monaco.
"We performed exceptionally well this weekend, but the conditions in Baku are likely to be quite different, and Singapore will also present its own unique challenges. Therefore, we need to approach each race with a fresh perspective. We successfully made adjustments from Monaco to Montreal, but as evidenced by the significant differences between those two weekends, each race requires its own distinct preparation."
"We then experienced three or four of the toughest races of the season as we tried to figure out the issues with our car. Hopefully, we won't face another series of challenging races moving forward, and I don't believe we will."
“However, it’s crucial that not just the team, but also external expectations, don’t skyrocket from one race to the next, as this isn’t feasible."
"Did we make progress? Yes. Is it sufficient to secure victories for the remainder of the season? I don't believe so yet, but we are heading in the right direction."
