Jorge Martin’s Unexpected Shift: From Ducati’s Favor to Aprilia’s Future Star
Jorge Martin acknowledges that there was a shift in Ducati's plans regarding him
Jorge Martin reveals that initially, Ducati showed a preference for him over Marc Marquez, but then "someone altered the concept".
Jorge Martin is set to join Aprilia as a rider in the 2025 MotoGP championship, although it seemed highly likely that he would transition to the official Ducati squad at Mugello.
It was anticipated that Martin would be revealed as Francesco Bagnaia's partner until Ducati had a change of opinion.
Instead, the Italian company opted to sign Marquez, a move that left Martin confused based on the information he had been given.
Addressing an audience in Assen, Martin remarked, "It's challenging to articulate from my perspective. I had a conversation with Ducati following the Montmelo event, and everything appeared to be straightforward.
"I chose not to discuss my future plans during the Mugello weekend to maintain my concentration."
On Sunday night, it became apparent that things were not as straightforward as I had thought. I made a choice and aimed to secure my prospects in Mugello.
An entity or individual appeared and transformed the concept. This shift is quite vexing as, despite the prolonged effort to proceed, it perpetually felt as though departure would never happen, and the awaited moment never came.
"I wasn't entirely sure my reason for going was exactly that. However, events unfold as they're supposed to."
Aprilia motorcycle deemed "highly competitive"
With over half of the season remaining for Martin at Ducati, the anticipation surrounding his upcoming move to Aprilia has sparked widespread speculation about his potential accomplishments.
Indeed, the Spanish rider will be receiving a new motorcycle, yet Aprilia has shown its capability to consistently compete with Ducati.
Martin is enthusiastic about the upcoming challenge, stating, "It's quite early in the process. Certainly, efforts are underway to assemble a strong team for me for the upcoming season."
"However, I prefer not to delve too much into that topic since there are still 12 races remaining."
"Following our time in Valencia, we'll be able to devote our attention to the project, ensuring quick adaptation and success. As evident, the motorcycle has demonstrated remarkable competitiveness."
"In Austin, Maverick truly stood out, showcasing the impressive capabilities of the motorcycle. I'm eager to see how well I can perform on it."
