Jorge Martin’s Bold Move: Leaving Ducati for Aprilia Amid Factory Team Snub
Jorge Martin Delivers Direct Statement to Ducati: "I'm Heading to a Team That Truly Values Me"
Jorge Martin has made it clear to Ducati: "I believe I'll be much happier in the coming years at my new destination. Achieving my dream of becoming a factory rider is part of this move. I'm joining a team that genuinely wants me."
As anticipated, Jorge Martin was the catalyst for the 2025 MotoGP rider market upheaval when he made the switch from Pramac Ducati to Aprilia.
Jorge Martin, who seemed poised to team up with Francesco Bagnaia at Lenovo Ducati, saw his future uncertain as Marc Marquez overtook him in the standings.
Martin’s tenure with Ducati might be remembered more for the instances when the factory team passed him over.
In 2023, Martin appeared set to secure a position as a factory rider, much like he did in 2024. However, Enea Bastianini was unexpectedly chosen for the promotion instead.
Martin, who was a strong candidate for the title up until the last race of the previous season, was speculated to be in the running for the factory seat if he had secured the championship, which ultimately did not happen.
Next was Mugello 2024, where Martin started as the frontrunner but, within days, was overtaken by Marquez.
Upset by Ducati's choice, Martin openly stated that he intends to move to a place where he feels appreciated.
"It was a busy weekend in Mugello. When I got to Mugello, I had certain expectations and information, but those changed significantly over the course of the weekend."
"Right after the race ended, I realized that things might not have been so obvious. I needed to make a choice."
“Life sometimes doesn’t unfold the way you anticipate or desire. It was somewhat disheartening—not during the Mugello event, but later—because after four years of striving to join the official team, I realized that Ducati didn’t see me as the right choice. They chose Marc instead.
"I seized the greatest chance available to me, and I believe I'll find greater happiness in the coming years with my new path. Additionally, achieving my dream of becoming a factory rider is now a reality."
“I am headed to a destination where my presence is genuinely desired, and where I will receive full support. This matters to me.”
"The season is far from over, and I remain a Ducati rider. My aim is to maintain professionalism and conclude the year on a high note."
There are worries about how Martin might be treated by Ducati, particularly since he is competing against Bagnaia and Marquez, who will soon be his teammates at the factory Ducati team.
Ducati has assured that Martin will be fully backed, a statement he concurred with regarding the upcoming event in Assen.
Martin stated, "I'm not worried about that. I have confidence in my abilities as a professional racer, and Ducati compensates me for my skills."
"Right now, Ducati is my team until Valencia. I will put in my full effort to either secure a win or do my utmost to try and achieve it."
“In my understanding, they informed me that I would continue to receive the same resources as I have been getting so far.”
"I'm certain there will be no problems, and I'll be able to compete against these two individuals under fair circumstances."
