Jorge Martin Triumphs at Sachsenring: ‘A Clever Move’ Secures Third Consecutive Victory Over Bagnaia
Jorge Martin sets the standard: “I was certain Pecco wouldn’t anticipate an overtake”
Jorge Martin: “It was a strategic and effective maneuver. Pecco was heavily guarding his position during braking. In that moment, I was confident he wouldn’t foresee an overtake.”
Jorge Martin clinched his third consecutive win at Sachsenring, following up last season’s back-to-back victories with a triumph in the MotoGP sprint on Saturday.
The frontrunner in the championship increased his points advantage to 15 after outperforming Francesco Bagnaia for the first time in seven races, since the sprint in Catalunya.
"It's always great to come out on top," Martin commented. "We performed well here, and I had to seize the chance. Despite not being at my best and facing some difficulties, I managed to advance my standing."
"I aimed to maintain a fast speed while taking care of both the front and rear tires. Although tomorrow's race will be lengthy, I'm currently quite pleased."
Typically excellent at maintaining his position when starting from the front, Martin was pushed back to third place early on.
However, the Pramac rider, even after altering his strategy, swiftly reclaimed the leading position: “I remained concentrated, but I had to adapt my approach. I was ready for one tactic, but then everything shifted.”
"I needed to pass quickly because staying behind would have put me at a disadvantage. The situation is always challenging due to the pressure."
"We gave it our all and achieved a win. We will make another attempt tomorrow."
Talking about how he passed Bagnaia, Martin confessed that he capitalized on the unexpected to get ahead.
“It was a smart strategy and it worked well,” Martin commented. “Pecco was heavily guarding his position during braking. At that moment, I realized he wouldn’t anticipate my maneuver.”
"Tomorrow, my aim is to maintain the lead at the first corner, as he'll be ready to defend his position at every turn."
