**Jorge Martin Reflects on Pecco Bagnaia-Alex Marquez Aragon MotoGP Crash: A Turning Point in the Championship Battle?**
Jorge Martin has shared his thoughts on the incident between his championship contender Pecco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez during the Aragon MotoGP race.
Jorge Martin’s hopes for the championship got a significant lift at the Aragon Grand Prix last weekend, thanks to his unwavering performance, while Francesco Bagnaia suffered a crash.
Martin came to Aragon just five points behind Bagnaia in the World Championship standings, following Bagnaia's wins in both the Sprint and Grand Prix events in Austria.
However, Bagnaia had a disappointing weekend in terms of points, which coincided with Martin securing another pair of second-place finishes. Martin has consistently placed second in all six races since the summer break.
Bagnaia's weekend culminated in a late-race clash with Alex Marquez. Despite a disappointing start, Bagnaia made his way up the ranks and caught up to Marquez's rear wheel with seven laps remaining.
During the 18th lap, Marquez went off course at turn 12. As Bagnaia attempted to capitalize on this, they collided and both crashed at turn 13.
During the post-race press conference, Martin shared his perspective on the incident, though he was noticeably hesitant to strongly favor any particular side.
"It's challenging," Martin remarked. "You ought to consult Pecco [Bagnaia] and Alex [Marquez]."
"Undoubtedly, it was hard to see clearly due to the amount of dust in that area. I believe Alex couldn't tilt further, similar to what occurred with Joe Roberts in Moto2, where Roberts crashed on the final lap while competing against his American Racing teammate Marcos Ramirez. Ultimately, this led to a collision."
"I really hope they're alright. After the crash, it looked like they were near the bikes, so I’m wishing they’ll be fine for the next race."
Following the incident, Bagnaia visited the medical center where scans revealed no broken bones. However, the Italian rider mentioned experiencing pain in his neck and left shoulder.
This weekend, the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli will host the next race in the MotoGP World Championship, known as the San Marino Grand Prix. In 2023, Bagnaia participated in this event with a leg injury sustained from a crash during the Catalan Grand Prix. Similarly, this year, he will have just one week to recover from the Aragon race before competing at Misano.
Despite Bagnaia having secured two victories at Misano in the MotoGP category, it was Martin who triumphed in both 2023 races. This year, the Spanish rider heads to his competitor's home event with a 23-point lead in the championship standings.
