Jorge Martin Penalized: MotoGP Title Leader Drops to Fifth on Dutch GP Grid After Qualifying Incident
Jorge Martin faces a grid penalty for the upcoming Dutch MotoGP on Sunday, causing the MotoGP championship leader to move from second to fifth place on the starting grid.
Jorge Martin, the current leader in the MotoGP World Championship, will start from fifth place instead of second in the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday due to a penalty issued by the FIM Stewards.
The Pramac Ducati racer was seen moving at a slow pace and interfering with rider #25, Raul Fernandez, in Turns 2 and 3 during the second qualifying session.
"For a first infraction of the season, the suitable punishment in this instance is a drop of three grid positions."
Despite the fact that Martin appeared to have impeded Fernandez, they were among a pack of cyclists.
Earlier, Martin had shown his annoyance at being delayed by people requesting a tow.
The Spaniard's advantage in the world championship has decreased to 15 points following Francesco Bagnaia's start-to-finish win, placing him ahead of the #89 in the Sprint race.
Due to Martin's penalty, Maverick Vinales is now starting from second place on the grid, while Alex Marquez has been shifted to the outer position of the front row.
Aleix Espargaro is at the front of the second row in fourth place, assuming he is able to compete following his crash on the last lap of Saturday's Sprint.
