Jorge Martin Outpaces Marc Marquez in Thrilling German MotoGP FP1 at Sachsenring
German MotoGP: Jorge Martin Outpaces Marc Marquez in First Practice Session
Jorge Martin leads the initial practice session at Sachsenring, surpassing Marc Marquez, who suffered a late fall.
Marc Marquez encountered initial problems and quickly headed back to the pit lane right after completing his out lap.
The racer, who has secured victory 11 times at Sachsenring, was able to return to the track just six minutes into the first practice session.
Leading the pack, Jorge Martin and Alex Marquez were both recording incredibly quick laps.
Marc Marquez set the fastest lap, surpassing Martin and his brother Alex, who had previously traded the quickest times. Marquez achieved this impressive feat by more than two tenths of a second, even after needing to pass Pedro Acosta at the last turn.
Marquez clocked in at 1:21.027, with just three other competitors finishing within 0.5 seconds of the eight-time world champion.
Marquez comfortably broke into the 1 minute 20 second range, extending his lead to more than half a second ahead of his brother, Alex.
Francesco Bagnaia had a sluggish beginning in FP1, finding himself in 16th position after almost 20 minutes had passed.
Poised to contest Marquez's fastest lap, Martin posted two fastest sector times but then veered off course and into the gravel at turn eight.
Shortly after, Martin committed a comparable error while trying to keep pace with Marquez, causing him to go off track at turn one.
After completing only a few laps, Aleix Espargaro chose to withdraw from the weekend's event while the session was still in progress.
Opting for fresh soft tires towards the end of the session, Martin was able to surpass Marquez, albeit by just a tenth of a second.
Marc Marquez’s impressive performance in the first practice session ended on a sour note when he fell at the first turn.
Late in the event, the Spanish riders faced additional challenges: Martin had to come back to the pit because his airbag deployed, and Acosta experienced a front-end slip at the last turn.
