Since clinching the title in Barcelona last November and remaining silent, newly crowned MotoGP champion Jorge Martin has announced his decision to compete with the #1 plate on his Aprilia in the 2025 season.
The announcement came to light as the Spaniard unveiled the newest RS-GP design, featuring the #1, at the team's introduction event in Milan, Italy, on Thursday.
"Martin clarified, saying, 'Choosing the number 1 was a no-brainer for me, as it's something I've been striving towards my entire life.'"
"Securing the world championship title in MotoGP and having the opportunity to adorn this incredible Aprilia with this number is truly wonderful."
With this figure, I'm optimistic that we'll find ourselves significantly more driven. It truly uplifts my spirits.
"I've retained the tiny number 89 and the pair of stars, as they symbolize my two world championship victories. I'm hopeful that we'll be able to include additional stars moving forward!"
Francesco Bagnaia, Martin's competitor for the championship, has sported the number 1 on his bike while riding for the official Ducati team over the past two years.
Ducati's choice to select Marc Marquez over Martin for the 2025 season has opened the door for Aprilia to carry the #1 on their bike in the premier class for the first time ever.
Martin clinched the championship with the #89 on his Pramac Ducati bike.
The possibility of the #1 plate transitioning to Aprilia appeared to affect Davide Tardozzi, the team manager of Bagnaia’s official Ducati squad, who expressed to TNT Sports, “Should Aprilia acquire this #1, it remains to be seen whether they can successfully manage it…”
Martin replied, "I watched it [on television] and couldn't stop laughing."
Amidst the honor, Aprilia Racing's Chief Executive Officer, Massimo Rivola, maintained that Martin would have the autonomy to choose whether he preferred the #1 plate.
"Rivola stated, “The decision is entirely up to him. It's completely his choice without any coercion involved. Having the world champion on our team serves as a significant incentive for us… It represents both a duty and a chance.”
From the beginning of the MotoGP era in 2002, opinions have been split among reigning champions about using the #1 plate.
Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez, Joan Mir, and Fabio Quartararo retained their familiar racing numbers while defending their MotoGP championships, in contrast to Nicky Hayden, Casey Stoner, and Francesco Bagnaia, who chose to race with the number 1 during their title defenses.
Jorge Lorenzo sported the #1 on his bike following his initial MotoGP championship victory in 2011, yet he opted to return to his familiar #99 in the subsequent seasons of 201
In 2023, Bagnaia became the first racer since Mick Doohan in 1998 to successfully defend his championship title while sporting the #1 plate.
In his first outing with Aprilia during the Barcelona test last November, Martin secured the eleventh quickest time, trailing by 1.056 seconds.
He is set to sport the #1 on his bike for the inaugural time at the Sepang MotoGP official test, scheduled from February 5th to 7th.
Marco Bezzecchi, a colleague of Martin on the racing team, has chosen to retain the number 72 for his inaugural season racing with an RS-GP.

Revving Up Consistency: Aprilia’s Braking Breakthrough and the Quest for MotoGP Supremacy
Aprilia's braking issue? "Barcelona made me think differently," says Fabiano Sterlacchini. "However, after the test in Barcelona, my perspective shifted somewhat."
High-speed turns are advantageous, while tight, slow corners are disadvantageous. This has frequently been the common perception of the Aprilia RS-GP in the MotoGP circuit.
However, during last season, the distinction was occasionally unclear. For instance, the RS-GP didn't perform as strongly in the quicker segments at Catalunya. Conversely, it unexpectedly secured a podium finish in the Sprint race at the Red Bull Ring, known for its demanding braking zones, although it was outpaced in the Grand Prix race.
Fabiano Sterlacchini, who has recently become the new technical director at Aprilia, mentioned that he had also perceived the 'braking weakness' issue while observing from his former high-level positions at Ducati and KTM.
However, his perspective shifted somewhat due to the RS-GP's strong showing in the intense braking zones during the Barcelona finale, where Aleix Espargaro secured 4th and 5th places. Additionally, insights from former Ducati racers Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi during the post-race test influenced his thinking.
Sterlacchini expressed that, based on his previous experiences competing against Aprilia, he had always believed that braking was a vulnerability for the bike. However, after observing its performance in Spielberg, which is known for its 'stop and go' nature, his perspective shifted.
"However, after the test in Barcelona, my perspective shifted somewhat."
"Not only did the new riders express their confidence in the bike's front-end stability, but Aleix's braking performance in Barcelona also demonstrated the bike's capabilities."
"We need to figure out why, historically, the bike—or the equipment overall—has struggled with heavy braking and tight, sharp turns. It's essential to address this issue because admitting we have a vulnerability isn't acceptable if we aim to be competitive in every race."
The RS-GP's erratic behavior during braking and acceleration, which is believed to be related to its electronic systems, has also posed a challenge.
Sterlacchini acknowledged that electronics have been a key focus for them during the off-season.
"Particularly in Barcelona, the dynamics observed might compel you to adopt a particular configuration to counteract these movements. Typically, implementing such a solution means sacrificing some level of performance."
"We are definitely focusing on the electronics, as it's an area we're actively developing. We're getting ready with some equipment for the upcoming test session at Sepang, particularly because the track there is well-suited for evaluating electronics."
Since 2022, Aprilia has achieved a total of eight wins, including both Sprint and Grand Prix races. They were the sole manufacturer to outperform Ducati last season. However, no Aprilia rider has managed to secure a position higher than fourth in the ultimate MotoGP rankings.
As Aprilia embarks on a new chapter with Martin, Bezzecchi, and Sterlacchini, the key focus is on maintaining 'consistency'. However, achieving this goal is more challenging than it seems.
"Improving the bike's consistency requires daily effort and strong commitment," stated Sterlacchini. "However, I believe it's essential to rely on data to assess the situation; otherwise, we're just left with subjective views."
The Italian pointed out that the presence of eight Ducati bikes in recent seasons contributed to their consistent performance. This number is set to decrease to six in 2025.
"Of course, I don't want to undermine the impressive capabilities of the Ducati bike, but it's important to note that having eight riders with varying traits…"
"Considering the results of Bagnaia and Jorge in Austin, where they didn't make it to the podium, their performance was lacking. However, Bastianini managed to secure a third-place finish!"

Intriguingly, Sterlacchini also described the ripple effect on mental well-being that can result from a weekend lacking competition.
"Being consistent is crucial when it comes to cycling. The reason for this is because the sport heavily relies on motivation and your confidence in your actions," he explained.
"Motivation plays a crucial role in performance, and if you face challenges in one race, the negative impact can carry over to the next race."
"While you may have a strong setup for the upcoming race, the lingering negativity still impacts you. Therefore, maintaining consistency is essential."
Summarizing his approach to MotoGP design, Sterlacchini, who has succeeded Romano Albesiano, now heading to HRC, asserts that achieving success hinges on combining rider insights with the latest advancements in engineering.
"We might be experiencing a transformative period in the world of motorcycle racing," he stated.
"Previously, the design process relied entirely on feedback from riders. Nowadays, it has become so complex that this input alone is insufficient."
"It is crucial to pay attention to what the rider has to say. Additionally, engineering and analysis are essential to achieving an improved motorcycle."
"Riders attempt to comprehend the actions of the bike. However, it's clear that they aren't flawless 'sensors' with impeccable 'CPUs' capable of grasping every detail. This is precisely why engineers are present."

The Austrian manufacturer is under pressure to deliver swift results, as this could significantly impact the team's future and attract potential investors who are keeping a close eye on their performance.
Lewis Duncan reported that in 2024, Ducati proved to be an unbeatable powerhouse, clinching victory in 19 out of the 20 grand prix races available. This overwhelming performance secured them a third consecutive riders’ championship, leaving their competitors far behind.
Considering the difficulties faced by Japanese manufacturers and the unpredictability surrounding KTM's capabilities in 2025 due to its ongoing financial issues, the only brand besides Ducati that secured a race victory in 2024 emerges as the most apparent competitor.
Last season, Aprilia fell to third place in the constructors' rankings, but various important elements might elevate its position again, posing a challenge to Ducati.
The current world champion, Jorge Martin, stood out in 2024, frequently outperforming his competitors on the Ducati. The Austrian firm’s financial difficulties have been widely reported, and they are likely to affect how they perform on the track, though the specifics of this impact are yet to be confirmed.
Conversely, Aprilia has gained new technical guidance with Fabiano Sterlacchini and, crucially for 2025, has enhanced its team of riders by bringing in Marco Bezzecchi and the newly crowned MotoGP World Champion, Jorge Martin.
Martin is expected to outperform Bezzecchi, yet both riders have the potential to frequently secure podium finishes. While challenging the factory Ducati riders consistently might be a stretch, it's not out of the realm of possibility. However, they should be able to maintain a steady lead over KTM, particularly as the season progresses.

Following three years with the VR46 satellite team, Marco Bezzecchi experienced the true essence of being a factory MotoGP racer during his initial outing with Aprilia at the Barcelona test in November.
Bezzecchi described his initial involvement with a factory team as an exciting experience. He noted a significant contrast between being part of a satellite team and a factory team. In this new role, he represents an entire brand, with hundreds of individuals supporting him, which he finds incredible.
"The most significant change occurs within the pit area. When you halt there, the number of individuals surrounding you is noticeably greater."
"I felt a little anxious because when I took my seat, I noticed a large crowd and thought to myself, ‘If I say anything foolish now, it's going to be an issue!’" he quipped.
"It was quite impressive. Additionally, I observed a lot of activity in the factory, and they genuinely make an effort to provide you with everything you require."
"Certainly, the satellite team does its best to assist you, but it's a completely different situation when you have the support of a manufacturer."
While reigning champion Jorge Martin, Aprilia's other new recruit, has understandably attracted most of the attention, Bezzecchi's signing has been warmly welcomed by Italian supporters.
The CEO of Aprilia Racing, Massimo Rivola, initially attempted to recruit Bezzecchi from Moto2 back in 2020.
Bez declined the opportunity, and following a disappointing performance in 2024 alongside the ascent of Martin and Marc Marquez, the Italian lost his chance with the factory Ducati team right when a spot opened up at Aprilia.
In late 2020, Massimo invited me to move up to MotoGP, but I didn't think I was prepared for it at that point, Bezzecchi explained. As a result, I chose to remain in Moto2, but he still gave me the chance to hold the handlebar!
"Last year, when I learned about Aleix's retirement, I quickly told my manager, 'Let's aim for a spot at Aprilia.' We were both interested in making it happen, and it was great because Massimo offered me the other handlebar!"
"I believe it's an exceptional family. I was pleasantly surprised by the warm reception I received when I toured the factory yesterday. The employees gazed at us with tears in their eyes, which was a deeply moving experience for me."
"I aim to build a lasting connection with them and wish that everyone enjoys it. Above all, I hope I can achieve high speeds with this bike."
In 2024, the GP23 season didn't leave much of an impression, but Bezzecchi managed to demonstrate his skills by securing three victories in MotoGP and finishing third in the 2023 world championship.
What emotions will arise from securing a victory for Aprilia?
"It will be entirely distinct," he remarked. "Each race ultimately stands apart from the rest. Currently, I am experiencing a great deal of support and affection from the team at Aprilia, which fills me with positivity. It allows me to relax a bit more."
"I am optimistic that this victory will arrive shortly. I understand the challenges involved. Our main objective is to quickly become accustomed to one another—myself to the motorcycle and the team, and the team to me as well."
"I'm not sure how I'll feel if I achieve a victory with Aprilia, but I will likely shed tears! Crying from happiness is a wonderful thing!"
At the Barcelona test, Bezzecchi finished 13th but was closely competitive with Martin. He is set to return to the RS-GP25 during the pre-season testing session at Sepang in February.

While Jorge Martin, the current champion and another recent addition to the Aprilia team, has understandably taken center stage, Marco Bezzecchi's signing has been well-received by the Italian fans.

"I hope this victory is just around the corner. I understand it's challenging. Our main goal is to adjust to one another as swiftly as possible. This involves me getting used to the bike and the team, and the team also getting accustomed to me."

Jorge Martin, who was feeling the effects of a hangover, described the front end experience during his debut with Aprilia in MotoGP as "incredible." He expressed that it was the finest bike he had ever ridden regarding the front end, calling it "crazy."

He admitted that he was still recovering from a wild party on Sunday, which made riding particularly tough. It was also announced at the event that Martin would be using the #1 plate for the upcoming season.
When I got on the bike, I wasn't sure what to anticipate, so I approached it with an open mind. The sensation from the front was amazing and beyond belief. In my opinion, it was the best front end experience I've ever had on a bike. It was astonishing.
"I initially struggled to keep up the pace, but as I gained momentum, I noticed some challenges arising," said Martin, who has been with Pramac Ducati in MotoGP since 2020.
"It might not have been an issue for Aleix or Maverick, but I definitely felt it. The motion seemed less steady compared to the Ducati. Once we made some adjustments, everything stabilized."
Aprilia provided Martin and his new teammate, Marco Bezzecchi, the opportunity to test the 2024 motorcycle along with a prototype for the 2025 model.
Martin expressed optimism about the future, noting that they experimented with several innovations for 2025, including an updated fairing and overall modifications to the bike. He emphasized that these changes represent a significant improvement over the 2024 model.
"I had some difficulty with traction, but I believe it's more about me getting used to the bike than an issue with the bike itself."
“The bike seems excellent and quite competitive to me, but I require some time to figure out where I can push harder, where I can gain time, and where I should take it easier.”
Martin admitted that he must adjust the way he rides in order to fully utilize the RS-GP's capabilities.
During the Barcelona test, I was handling the bike as if it were still a Ducati. I realized I need to significantly adjust my riding style, he stated.
"I have spent the winter assessing areas for improvement."
"I've been reviewing numerous races to identify the strengths, such as Maverick's performance in Austin and Aleix's success in Silverstone."
"I believe the bike is excellent. I just need some time to get used to it. Overall, I am confident we can perform really well."
Martin is set to undergo five additional days of testing, beginning at Sepang next month, before he makes his debut with Aprilia at the Buriram Grand Prix in March.

In 2025, Jorge Martin, the current MotoGP champion and recent Aprilia factory team recruit, will vie to retain his title sporting the team's latest colors.
At the Milan event held on Thursday, it was officially announced that Martin, who became the inaugural Independent champion of MotoGP by surpassing Francesco Bagnaia for the 2024 championship with Pramac Ducati, will compete using the #1 plate.
"Martin expressed his enthusiasm about the new opportunity, stating, 'I'm thrilled about the prospect of achieving victory with Aprilia.' He emphasized, 'My objectives are crystal clear; our focus now should be on reaching our peak potential, both for Aprilia and myself individually.'"
"I believe I'm exactly where I need to be to achieve remarkable accomplishments; the journey ahead is promising and full of excitement, with a shared sense of determination among us. The sense of belonging and support within this team is truly heartwarming, and I am convinced that I couldn't have found a better fit. We are all eagerly looking forward to embarking on this upcoming season."
Teammate Marco Bezzecchi expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Joining this team and Aprilia has been an incredible move for me. I’m thrilled about the journey ahead and proud to represent a brand of such significance.
Being officially recognized as a rider fills me with immense pride, both personally and professionally. I'm eager to hit the track, put in the effort, and push myself to secure impressive outcomes.
"Everyone is truly driven, which is something I deeply appreciate. I'm extremely excited – catch you in Sepang for the trial!"
The most recent design for Aprilia remains free from any major sponsor and maintains the black, red, and white color scheme from the past few years, alongside additional support from new sponsors such as Sterilgarda.
Throughout his four seasons in MotoGP, Martin has competed under the Pramac Ducati banner, securing his inaugural victory in the top class during just his sixth race.
Martin was narrowly beaten for the championship by factory ace Francesco Bagnaia in the climax of the 2023 season but came back with a fortified mindset to dominate the rankings for the majority of the previous season.
Nonetheless, following two instances where he was bypassed for a spot on the main Ducati team – first in favor of Enea Bastianini for the 2023 season and then for Marc Marquez in 2025 – the youthful Spaniard quickly shifted his aspirations towards Aprilia to realize his ambition of joining a factory team.
Daniele Romagnoli, team chief for Pramac, has transitioned to Aprilia alongside Martin to assist in his adjustment to the RS-GP.
Marco Bezzecchi, who has achieved three victories with VR46 Ducati, teams up with Martin at Aprilia for this racing season. In addition to introducing a completely new pair of riders, the team also welcomes Fabiano Sterlacchini as the new technical director, succeeding Romano Albesiano, who has moved to HRC.

Last year, Aprilia distinguished itself as the sole brand, apart from Ducati, to secure race wins. This was highlighted by Maverick Vinales' victory at COTA early in the season, which interrupted a potential clean sweep of grand prix wins by the Desmosedici riders.
Vinales, along with his ex-teammate Aleix Espargaro, triumphed in three Sprint races as well, distinguishing them as the sole riders outside of the Ducati camp to clinch first place.
Nonetheless, Aprilia ended up in third place in the constructors' standings, trailing behind Ducati and KTM. Similarly, Vinales found himself in the seventh position in the riders' rankings, overtaken by four Ducatis as well as the RC16s piloted by Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta.
During their initial outing with Aprilia at Barcelona's test session last November, Martin and Bezzecchi placed 11th and 13th respectively on the timesheets. Their debut laps for the 2025 MotoGP season are scheduled for the Sepang test, which runs from February 5th to 7th.
At the same time, Aprilia was revealing its latest MotoGP initiative, the team's ex-leader, Espargaro, was wrapping up the first day of an exclusive HRC trial in Buriram, Thailand.
Vinales is set to reveal his KTM colors for the 2025 season during a digital event on January 30th.

By opting for the #1 plate on his Aprilia for the 2025 season, the reigning world champion is making a strong declaration. However, this audacious choice may end up being a decision Martin regrets.
With the same certainty that Christmas Day occurs on the 25th of December annually, Jorge Martin revealed the number one plate on his Aprilia MotoGP motorcycle for the 2025 racing season during the team's introduction event in Milan this past Thursday.
For a while now, Martin has been dropping hints. Despite using his usual #89 at the Barcelona test after the season, he filled the off-season with suggestive images alluding to his decision. In an attempt to mislead, Aprilia featured #89 on the background display during his bike reveal at Sky Italy's studios. However, the intended shock lost its impact once the reveal took place.
Every year, a heated debate erupts: Is it obligatory for the world champion to sport the #1, or is it irrelevant? Some argue vehemently that champions must wear it, while others (including the author of these lines) remain indifferent.

Icons such as Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez indeed never switched their numbers, contributing to their personal branding and creating a distinct bond with their followers. Be it Rossi's #46, Michael Jordan's #23 (which LeBron James later adopted), or Wayne Gretzky's #99, these figures conjure up a deep connection and recognition among enthusiasts.
Throughout the contemporary period, it's rare for the reigning world champion, bearing the #1 plate, to perform exceptionally well. Nicky Hayden was the first to experience this in 2007. The American, who has since passed away, managed only three podium finishes that season and ended up in a disappointing eighth place overall. The following year, in 2008, Casey Stoner faced a similar fate. Despite his efforts, he couldn't retain his championship title, finishing a distant second to Rossi, lagging behind by a significant margin of 93 points.
Following suit in 2011, Jorge Lorenzo creatively combined his initials 'J' and 'L' to craft the #1 symbol. However, his aspirations for the title were dashed, finishing the season in second place, 90 points adrift of Stoner. His faint championship chances were definitively quashed following a practice accident at the Australian Grand Prix, which resulted in a fractured finger.
In 2012, Stoner returned to compete for the top spot once more. He finished the season in third place, after sitting out several races due to an ankle injury, by which point he had already made up his mind to retire from MotoGP. It wasn't until Francesco Bagnaia entered the 2023 season as the defending world champion that the #1 plate made its reappearance on a motorcycle. To date, he stands alone in the contemporary period as the rider who has managed to retain the championship title while bearing that number, securing another victory in 2023.
Prior to Bagnaia's achievement, the last individual to accomplish this feat was Mick Doohan in 1998. Subsequent attempts by Alex Criville in 2000 and Kenny Roberts Jr. in 2001, during the last years of the 500cc era, were unsuccessful.
Now, I wouldn't imply there's a mystical Indiana Jones-style curse associated with holding MotoGP's number one plate. However, the intense scrutiny that comes with defending a world champion title only intensifies when a loss occurs.
Discussing his decision during the Aprilia unveiling, Martin expressed, "I apply it everywhere. Certainly, there were no second thoughts about choosing the one since I've battled for this my entire life. Thus, securing the MotoGP world championship and having the opportunity to display this number on the incredible Aprilia feels fantastic. So, I'm hopeful that this number will boost our motivation even further. I'm very happy with it and aim to take it to the pinnacle."
The message implies more than what's directly stated. As the reigning world champion, and someone who chose to leave the top bike on the grid behind after Ducati did not elevate him to the factory team, Martin's drive is exceptionally strong.
Thus, his ambition for securing the top spot aims to spark inspiration internally at Aprilia. The manufacturer from Noale has been progressively climbing up the ranks, yet the likelihood of battling for the world title with riders Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales seemed slim in the past few years.
It managed to reach a competitive level capable of securing race victories by 2022, but experienced a considerable decline in its performance throughout the 2024 season, eventually dropping to third place in the constructors' rankings, with KTM moving ahead.
Before Martin's departure from Ducati, Aprilia had conversations with 2021 world champion Fabio Quartararo about potentially becoming part of their team. However, they were unable to offer a financial deal comparable to Yamaha's, with beliefs circulating that Aprilia was prepared to offer Quartararo a maximum of €4 million. Once Ducati decided against promoting Martin to its main team, choosing Marc Marquez instead, Aprilia somehow managed to increase their financial offer.
It seized an opportunity it couldn't ignore. Now, the stakes are high. It has established itself as a brand capable of drawing in top talent, but not delivering a competitive motorcycle for Martin could destroy this reputation.
Martin is keenly conscious of the Ducati's high performance and its potential for 2025, especially with Marc Marquez as the rider. It's important to note that Martin had spent the year analyzing his performance data while observing the eight-time world champion ride the GP23. Following the season, he noted that he surpassed "the best version" of Marquez.
Martin is aware of the opportunities he has left behind. Thus, Aprilia needs to justify the confidence he has placed in it.
Thus, the #1 plate serves not only as a rallying call for his team but also as a declaration of his world champion title. However, let's be clear: Martin attaching the #1 plate to the RS-GP is essentially a bold gesture of defiance towards the Ducati leadership.
Martin has maintained a polite demeanor when speaking publicly about Ducati's support for his 2024 championship campaign, even though they essentially sidelined him. However, following the season, he pointed out in a TV interview that their approach to denying him a factory seat was not handled well.
Observing the number one displayed on a competitor's motorcycle, alongside the same racer who clinched the world championship on it the previous year, is sure to rankle Ducati today.
However, Martin is also facing a significant gamble. By competing with the #1 plate, he is under pressure to perform. Furthermore, he has quickly dismissed any talk of vying for the championship in 2025.
If Martin secures the championship this year riding for Aprilia, it might initially seem like a setback for Ducati. However, Ducati could ultimately emerge victorious if Marc Marquez justifies their choice by clinching his seventh MotoGP championship in 2025…

Aprilia has announced that for the upcoming MotoGP test in Sepang, it will prepare ten motorcycles built to 2025 specifications, following the introduction of two prototype models at the post-season test in Barcelona.
At today's team launch, team manager Paolo Bonora affirmed that unveiling the next-generation motorcycle last November marked a premiere for Aprilia.
"However, introducing the latest bike model was crucial to gather feedback from the two new riders."
The latest additions to the team are reigning world champion Jorge Martin and three-time race victor Marco Bezzecchi, both transitioning from Ducati's affiliated teams.
During their initial trial, the duo secured the eleventh and thirteenth fastest times, piloting the RS-GPs for the 2024 and 2025 models.
In the upcoming session at Sepang, scheduled for early February, each of the four riders from Factory and Trackhouse teams will have access to two 2025 models, with an additional two allocated for test rider Lorenzo Savadori, bringing the total to ten motorcycles.
"Indeed, it represents the most significant endeavor we've undertaken," Bonora acknowledged. "We're pleased about it, but we especially want to express our gratitude to everyone at Aprilia Racing and both of our teams."
Martin and Bezzecchi aren't the only newcomers to Aprilia; technical director Sterlacchini also joins them, stepping in for Romano Albesiano who has moved on to HRC.
"Being in Sepang for the unveiling of the new roster is something I'm eagerly looking forward to," remarked Massimo Rivola, the CEO of Aprilia Racing. "The anticipation was already high in Barcelona. Indeed, the excitement was palpable even the day prior to the test."
"We've undergone significant changes. Additionally, with Fabiano on board, we're faced with a fresh challenge. Essentially, the only thing we're not lacking is motivation! We're eager to get started."
Sterlacchini comes following an extensive tenure at Ducati, succeeded by a two-year period with KTM.
"He emphasized that in motorcycle racing, the synergy of engineering and the rider's intuition, along with their confidence, plays a crucial role."
"A significant aspect of the performance hinges on the rider's ability to effortlessly maximize the bike's potential."
The person from Italy further stated, "As is typical, effort must be put into every facet, enhancing every component to ensure there are no vulnerabilities.
"Indeed, our initial focus during the early phase of the 2025 development was primarily on engine and aerodynamics improvements. This was largely due to the fact that those components are subject to homologation at the season's start."
"Additionally, we are focusing on various vehicle elements, including the electronics. Our goal is to enhance the motorcycle across the entire project, essentially."
In light of achieving eight victories (Grand Prix and Sprint races) through ex-riders Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales in the past few years, coupled with the addition of Martin and the prestigious #1 plate to their team, Rivola believes setting their sights on winning the championship is a natural objective.
In 2022, Espargaro achieved Aprilia's highest ranking in the MotoGP riders' championship by finishing fourth.

Addressing the audience at Aprilia's unveiling event in Milan, Rivola pointed out that certain aspects of MotoGP still carry a high price tag, emphasizing that KTM's circumstances underscore the necessity for reform.
"When do I need to respond by?" he inquired, following a question about his perspective on the economic sustainability of MotoGP.
"This is an ongoing conversation I have with Carmelo Ezpeleta, the CEO of Dorna, and those within the MotoGP sphere."
"I continue to hold the view that our sport, our industry, is somewhat overly costly. In my opinion, we don’t actually require as much to deliver an entertaining performance, considering we have vehicles that are essentially airplanes on two wheels."
"From my perspective, several aspects could benefit from improved management and regulation. However, I recognize that establishing a rule also requires the capability to enforce it."
"However, the cautionary tale presented by KTM's ordeal should not be dismissed as merely 'unfortunate'."

Jorge Martin expresses deep commitment to Aprilia MotoGP team: "I'm fully dedicated to their cause."

Current MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin has expressed that he felt an immediate sense of belonging with Aprilia, describing it as “like my family” and humorously added, “I will kill for them”.
Martin was originally set to become a member of the factory Ducati team in 2025, but the team reversed its decision, opting to elevate Marc Marquez to that position.
Aprilia successfully signed Martin following the Italian Grand Prix last year, leading to the Spaniard clinching the championship on a Ducati operated by Pramac.

During its season kickoff for 2025 on Thursday, Martin announced his decision to compete using the #1 plate on his RS-GP.
In a conversation with journalists, including those from Crash.net, Martin shared his thoughts on the bond he has formed with Aprilia thus far.
"He expressed his satisfaction."
"It's incredibly rewarding. Being appreciated is something we all desire, so when I got to the factory and noticed how emotional everyone was around me and Marco [Bezzecchi], it was evident that our arrival was quite the sensation."
"I already sense the affection emanating from the factory towards us, and it already feels as though they're my family; I'd go to great lengths for them."
"This is incredibly significant. I've never experienced anything like this before in my career, working with other brands. It brings me immense joy and I believe it serves as a huge source of inspiration for all of us."
He mentioned, "The initial day [testing the bike in Barcelona] was fantastic.
"From the outset of the testing phase, I sensed significant encouragement from individuals who genuinely valued my feedback."
"However, I believe it's essential for me to adjust somewhat to their working methods, and perhaps they could benefit from incorporating some aspects of my approach, since it significantly varies."
"I believe my experience collaborating with Aleix [Espargaro] was quite distinct from his, especially in the way I approach riding and execute my runs."
"Thus, it's not the same. However, upon observation, I noticed they were incredibly systematic in their analysis post-examination."
Reflecting on my time with Pramac, I recall being actively engaged and sharing my insights. However, once my contribution was made, my involvement came to an end.
"However, in this case, we often end up spending around two hours in a meeting attempting to grasp what needs to be prioritized and the direction we should take, as well as my own
"In fact, I have the impression that they will focus on what's important to me. That's truly significant. It's the reason I aimed to become a factory rider, and at last, I sense that backing."

As the previous year drew to a close, Martin shared his experience of consulting a sports psychologist due to struggles with his mental well-being after his defeat in the 2023 championship.
He disclosed that at the onset of the 2024 pre-season, his enthusiasm for racing had waned, but as the current world champion, he finds himself in a significantly transformed state of mind.
"Absolutely, it has changed significantly from what it was a year back," he observed.
Precisely a year back, I found myself in the midst of an incredibly challenging period in my life, truly.
"I'm pleased with this outcome as it brings me a sense of joy. Reflecting on the last season, or perhaps even the last two years, I recognize there was a lack of motivation on my part to compete."
"I was engaged in both competitive racing and rigorous training, driven by a strong sense of discipline. My commitment to my profession has led me to make numerous sacrifices."
"Now, I'm truly inspired and maintain my discipline due to a slight concern that after achieving victory, I might start thinking, 'Alright, you've won, so just relax and savor it'."
"For me, it's different. I see it as the start of something significant.
"I believe my training has reached a new peak, with my methods improving significantly, and I now comprehend the reasons behind my actions."
"I'm feeling wonderful; my experience is proving beneficial, and this hiatus has truly kept my motivation high. I'm eagerly anticipating the beginning."

In a playful move, Ducati shared pictures of their new pair of riders right in the middle of Aprilia's 2025 MotoGP bike unveiling. The event showcased Jorge Martin revealing the #1.
Martin had to look for opportunities elsewhere as Ducati opted to select Marquez for their factory team.
Marquez has begun his first day of work with the official team and quickly encountered Bagnaia.
The two greeted each other with a handshake, but it won't reduce the anticipation surrounding their competition in the upcoming season.
While Marquez and Bagnaia are an exceptional riding pair, Ducati could struggle to maintain satisfaction for both riders.
Both are focused on taking Martin's title and might end up hindering each other's efforts in the process.
The dynamics within the team will face closer examination, unlike anything seen during Bagnaia's partnership with Enea Bastianini.
Marquez signifies a shift in Ducati's typical strategy, which usually focuses on advancing young talent from inside the organization.
However, his exceptional performance on Gresini’s previous year’s bike during last season persuaded their leaders to select him.
Marquez, Bagnaia, and VR46's Fabio di Giannantonio are set to race on the GP25, a Ducati bike that represents the pinnacle of factory specifications and is expected to be the top motorcycle in this year's MotoGP lineup.
