Jorge Martin Confident in Ducati’s Edge Over Rivals Despite Vinales’ Record Lap at Sachsenring
Jorge Martin is of the opinion that Ducati maintains its lead over competitors at Sachsenring, despite Maverick Vinales setting a new lap record.
During the crucial Friday afternoon practice session at the German MotoGP, Jorge Martin clocked in as the second quickest. Nevertheless, there was a significant time difference between him and the fastest rider, Maverick Vinales.
The gap between the two Spaniards exceeded three-tenths, yet Martin firmly believes that Ducati continues to be the leading competitor.
Martin mentioned, "They pose a significant challenge in the time trial. However, I believe we have a slight advantage regarding the race pace, although they are not far behind.
"This course is quite peculiar and they definitely have the capability to handle it. Should the conditions on Sunday include unusual winds and lower temperatures, they could be contenders."
During the second session at Sachsenring, over a third of the racers fell due to the chilly weather and strong winds causing chaos.
Martin encapsulated the experience: "The day was odd. The windy weather combined with the chill made for challenging conditions.
"I believe we pushed the boundaries with the front tire. The medium option was overly soft, and the hard one didn't reach the necessary temperature for use."
"This is the reason behind the occasional accidents. However, I remained assured in my approach, consistently practicing with worn tyres to master increasing my speed towards the race's conclusion, an area I perhaps struggled with in the previous season."
"I am feeling assured, and the motorcycle is performing efficiently, allowing me to focus on finetuning. We'll find out if we can advance further tomorrow."
Discussing tires, Martin thinks that because of the challenging conditions, selecting the appropriate tires for the races will be crucial.
Martin mentioned, "It might not make a huge difference, but it will influence the selection of the front tire. Opting for the hard front will be a safer choice. This will benefit all riders."
"However, Sunday presents a challenge as we'll face identical conditions to what we encountered today. It's crucial that we thoroughly examine the data from today and prepare accordingly for Sunday."
