Jorge Martin Accepts Second Place as Best Outcome in Dutch MotoGP Sprint, Eyes Improvements for Grand Prix
Jorge Martin stated he would have agreed to a second-place finish prior to the race. He mentioned that securing second position in the Dutch MotoGP sprint race was the maximum he could achieve.
During the MotoGP sprint at Assen, Jorge Martin quickly stood out by keeping pace with the race's ultimate winner, Francesco Bagnaia.
The current world champion's speed was overwhelming, leading Martin to be content with securing second place after facing difficulties throughout the weekend.
Martin commented, "I would agree to finishing in second place before the race even begins. The competition is extremely tough, but Pecco is currently performing at an exceptional level."
"We significantly narrowed the gap. Earlier today, I was trailing by roughly half a second, but during the sprint, it was down to just a tenth or two."
"I was nearer to the front, though I didn't quite feel connected. Finishing second is excellent."
When questioned about his struggles to demonstrate the race-winning capabilities frequently observed this season at Assen, Martin attributed the issue to the configuration of his GP24.
"The championship leader started by saying, 'We were at a slight disadvantage with our initial setup. In the recent races at Montmelo and Mugello, we made significant adjustments to the bike.'"
"We were losing our foundation and felt a bit disoriented. However, we examined the previous races to figure out how to revert to that configuration, and we attempted it. It appears that we have regained our optimal performance."
"Even at our peak performance, we're still somewhat behind. This track has its challenges, and we'll strive to narrow the gap and aim for a podium finish tomorrow. If that doesn't happen, we'll focus on the next race."
Martin might be the rider capable of giving Bagnaia a run for his money in Sunday’s grand prix.
The Pramac racer admitted that he'll strive to match the Italian's performance, but he also mentioned the necessity of handling the circumstances effectively.
Martin mentioned that he is uncertain, saying, "I’m not sure. Sometimes unexpected things occur, and I will certainly make an effort."
"You can count on me for this, but I'll also work to mitigate the risks and see it through to the finish."
