Jorge Martin: A New Chapter of Maturity and Mastery in MotoGP Championship Lead
MotoGP frontrunner Jorge Martin feels he has grown in maturity while riding
Martin perceives a significant improvement in his performance post-summer break
MotoGP frontrunner Jorge Martin believes he has gained maturity in recent races, evident by his reduced number of crashes.
Martin encountered numerous significant mistakes during the initial stages of the season, resulting in crashes while leading both the Spanish and German Grand Prix, which allowed his main competitor, Francesco Bagnaia, to secure victories.
Since the summer hiatus, Martin has managed to complete each race, whereas Bagnaia experienced a crash at Aragon and also took a tumble when he was in third position during last weekend's race at Misano.
Following the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Martin has taken a 24-point lead in the championship standings ahead of Bagnaia, securing a second-place finish in every race held on a Sunday since the British Grand Prix, with just one exception
"He mentioned, "The positive aspect now appears to be my increased maturity on the bike during the recent races."
"At the start of the season, it appears I encountered some issues that went unnoticed by me, leading to crashes in places such as Sachsenring or Jerez."
"Now, I believe we've discovered the answer. Definitely, last weekend at the San Marino GP, I made a mistake by switching to my wet bike, which cost me points."
"However, I'm experiencing fewer crashes now, which means I'm pleased that I've discovered a stable foundation."
"I'm quite familiar with my bike and believe I have a good handle on its maximum potential. Therefore, my aim for the upcoming races in Indonesia and beyond is to maintain or possibly extend my lead."
Martin observed following the summer recess that his accidents in the initial part of the season were due to him utilizing a unique setup compared to his Ducati counterparts, impacting his braking performance.
The Pramac competitor was defeated in the Emilia Romagna GP under contentious conditions when Enea Bastianini forced him off the track during a final lap maneuver.
Reflecting on the overall circumstances following the event, Martin commented, "I believe I had a great weekend."
"Definitely, my goal was to come out on top, but it's alright. I'm satisfied with how I performed and pleased with my qualification."
"My goal is to reach the season's conclusion. I'll continue to put in the effort, gain knowledge, and I feel joyful. Focusing solely on the outcomes, today might have been improved. However, it's time to progress."
