Johann Zarco Surprised by Marc Marquez’s Ducati Struggles: Pecco Bagnaia Still Reigns Supreme
Johann Zarco anticipated that Marc Marquez would dominate the competition on a Ducati. Zarco commented, "I assumed he would easily outperform everyone, but Pecco proved that he remains the top rider for handling the Ducati."
Johann Zarco has confessed that he anticipated six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez would adjust to the Ducati more quickly.
Marquez is still very much involved in the battle for the championship, trailing behind Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia. Unlike Marquez, who is on last year's GP23 bike that won the title, Martin and Bagnaia are riding the newer GP24 model.
Marquez needed some time to get used to the Ducati, but he has performed exceptionally well for most of this season.
However, this still hasn't led to a win, which has come as a surprise to Zarco.
In an interview with GPOne, Zarco mentioned, "Honestly, I thought he would be more dominant, but I came to understand that he required some time to adjust."
"I expected him to dominate and eliminate his rivals, but instead, Pecco demonstrated that he remains the top rider when it comes to handling the Ducati."
"He performs with an exceptionally clear and accurate approach. Observing Marc's necessity to adjust reassures me, as it shows that even the top riders must adapt, even if Marc does so more quickly than I do."
"This inspires me and helps me recognize that each bike has its own unique aspects to learn about."
Zarco, after departing from Ducati to continue his MotoGP career with Honda, has personally witnessed the superior performance of the Desmosedici in contrast to the underperforming Honda.
However, the French rider is still determined to make improvements with the Japanese brand.
Honda is currently experiencing challenges in WorldSBK, but Zarco, who is scheduled to race for Honda in the Suzuka 8 Hours this year, is determined to continue competing in MotoGP for several more seasons.
When questioned about the possibility of moving to WorldSBK, Zarco responded: "No, I thoroughly enjoy MotoGP. The competition level is extremely high, and I am thrilled to keep advancing as a rider in this championship."
"To me, it continues to be 'the category,' and it's my category."
