Johann Zarco Surprised by Marc Marquez’s Ducati Struggles, Backs Pecco Bagnaia as Top Rider
Johann Zarco anticipated that Marc Marquez would dominate the race on a Ducati. Zarco said he believed Marquez would outperform everyone, but it was Pecco who proved to be the most skilled Ducati rider.
Johann Zarco has confessed that he is surprised by how long it has taken six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez to get used to riding the Ducati.
Marquez is still heavily involved in the championship battle, trailing behind Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia. Both Martin and Bagnaia are competing on the GP24 bike, while Marquez is using the GP23 model that won the title last year.
Marquez, who initially needed some time to get used to the Ducati, has been outstanding throughout most of this season.
However, Zarco was taken aback as it did not lead to a win.
In an interview with GPOne, Zarco mentioned, "Honestly, I thought he would be even more formidable, but I soon understood that he required some time to adjust."
"I expected him to dominate and eliminate his rivals, but Pecco demonstrated that he remains the top rider for handling the Ducati."
"He performs it in a very neat and exact manner. Observing Marc's necessity to adjust reassures me, because when I mention that I need to adapt to something, I notice that even the top [rider] must do it, albeit more quickly than I do."
“This inspires me and makes me aware that each bike has its own aspects to learn about.”
Johann Zarco, who departed from Ducati to continue his MotoGP career with Honda, has directly observed the superior performance of the Desmosedici in contrast to the underperforming Honda.
However, the French cyclist remains determined to improve the situation with the Japanese company.
Honda is currently facing challenges in WorldSBK, but Zarco, who is scheduled to participate in the Suzuka 8 Hours race for Honda this year, is determined to continue racing in MotoGP for several more seasons.
When questioned about a potential move to WorldSBK, Zarco responded, "No, I'm enjoying MotoGP a lot. The competition in MotoGP is extremely intense, and it thrills me to keep developing my skills as a rider."
"In my opinion, it continues to be 'the category' and it belongs to me."
