Jiyue’s Second Attempt: Baidu-Backed EV Maker Launches New Model in Pursuit of China’s Premium EV Market Dominance
Jiyue, supported by Baidu, is aiming for a breakthrough in China's upscale electric vehicle market with the release of its second model. The company is relying on autonomous driving technology in order to compete with leading manufacturers following disappointing sales of its initial model.
Advance sales kicked off on Wednesday night. The firm plans to reveal specifics about the sedan and its associated technologies during a debut event on September 10.
"Jiyue is counting on its second production vehicle to bolster its sales," stated Eric Han, a high-ranking official at Suolei, a consulting company based in Shanghai. "Considering the cutting-edge technologies and backing from tech giant Baidu, the company's performance has to get better in light of the uninspiring sales figures for the Jiyue 01."
Jiyue doesn't release distribution figures. It's not featured on the China Passenger Car Association's list of the top 10 electric vehicle manufacturers based on monthly sales in China.
