Is This the New Porsche 911 GT2 RS? Speculations Rise as a Mysterious Prototype Roars on the Nürburgring
Could this prototype be the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS?
Although it may be labeled as a GT3 RS, it sounds completely different.
Porsche just gave the 911 a significant facelift this week, which includes a new 541-horsepower super-hybrid for the 911 GTS. This move demonstrates that the folks from Zuffenhausen can make hybrids both cool and not excessively heavy. However, there might be something even more thrilling on the horizon, and we have a hunch that something very exciting is coming our way soon.
A new 911 GT2 RS is in the spotlight. Similar to the 997 and 991 models, it's anticipated that the 992 series will also receive the "beast mode" upgrade in the latter part of its production cycle. This could happen as early as 2025. Currently, a special prototype is being tested around the Nürburgring, fueling further speculation.
On the CarSpyMedia YouTube channel, the car can be seen in its natural habitat. Understandably, there's some confusion because the vehicle looks exactly like the current GT3 RS from the outside. As you may know, the GT3 RS features a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated engine that revs up to 9,000 RPM, producing a distinctive roar. Even the decals on the doors read "GT3 RS." However, listen closely to the sound it makes. You'll soon realize that something seems off.
The shrill whine of the high-revving naturally aspirated engine is gone. In its place is a deeper, less melodious gurgle. This car doesn't sound like a GT3 RS. To be frank, it resembles the sound of the previous generation GT2 RS more. For context, that model featured a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine producing 700 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque.
It's not really surprising that Porsche is testing the upcoming GT2 RS in the body of the current GT3 RS. The previous generation also utilized much of the GT3 RS's bodywork, with only minor modifications made to the front and rear.
The most recent GT2 RS is the top performer of the 991 series, achieving 0-100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 8.3 seconds. Its top speed is 340 km/h. In 2017, this vehicle set the Nürburgring record for the fastest production rear-wheel-drive car. By 2021, the Manthey Racing-tuned GT2 RS MR had become the fastest production car overall on the Nordschleife track.
Considering the extensive work done on the suspension and aerodynamics of the 992 GT3 RS, the upcoming GT2 RS is likely to be absolutely insane.
Which number eleven will it be?
