Honda Secures Aleix Espargaro as MotoGP Test Rider for 2025 Amidst Racing Struggles
Announcement: HRC officially announces Aleix Espargaro as MotoGP test rider for 2025
In a recent statement, HRC has officially announced the acquisition of Aleix Espargaro to serve as their test rider starting in 2025
Honda has formally announced the signing of Aleix Espargaro as its test rider for the 2025 MotoGP season.
Espargaro chose to retire from full-time racing ahead of his hometown Grand Prix in Barcelona, sparking speculation that he might pursue a position as a test rider.
Honda quickly took action upon realizing that an agreement between the two parties was imminent.
The contract has now been formalized, with Espargaro set to head Honda's testing program together with Stefan Bradl.
Honda is currently facing their most challenging era in MotoGP, making the acquisition of a rider with Espargaro's skill and expertise potentially crucial.
Espargaro was absent from the previous weekend's Dutch MotoGP due to experiencing two major accidents, with the second occurring on the final lap of the sprint race.
Espargaro sustained a break in the fifth bone of his right hand as a result of the crash. However, the Spanish rider plans to undertake magnetotherapy treatment with the aim of accelerating his healing process, hopeful to be ready for the upcoming German Grand Prix at Sachsenring this weekend.
Honda has announced that they are strengthening their testing lineup by including Aleix Espargaro as a test rider for 2025, complementing Bradl but not replacing the German rider, according to Honda's press release.
Approaching 250 top-tier races, the 34-year-old veteran boasts a deep well of Grand Prix knowledge, along with a track record that includes three wins and more than 1,300 points in MotoGP competitions.
"He will team up with HRC veteran Stefan Bradl to further the development of the Honda RC213V."
At Assen, Johann Zarco achieved the highest position for Honda, finishing 13th, whereas Joan Mir experienced another race-ending crash, underscoring the necessity of adding a prominent figure to their testing team to advance their project.
