Highs and Lows at Aragon: Binder’s Burnout Woes and Miller’s Grip Struggles Highlight MotoGP Weekend
Brad Binder exclaimed, “I ended up doing a rolling burnout once more!” Meanwhile, Jack Miller mentioned he got “overtaken by Rins.” Binder further elaborated, “I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…”
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend since the season opener in Qatar, finishing in 4th and 6th place at Aragon.
This happened even though he spun off the line in both races. Still, his seventh-place finish came from the cleaner part of a messy starting grid.
During the middle phases of the race, Binder trailed behind newcomer Pedro Acosta. This pursuit turned into a fight for third place following a collision between Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia with five laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained slightly beyond reach.
“I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start, and I executed a rolling burnout just like I did the previous day!” Binder said with a smile.
"I navigated through the pack and overtook several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire overheated when I was trailing others, right up until the final portion of the race."
"I attempted to compensate for time lost by accelerating quickly out of the corners since I wasn't able to enter them at high speed due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire wore out completely by the end."
"I gave it my all to overtake Pedro, but I had no support from behind!"
"Besides that, we made several positive strides this weekend. We experimented with adjusting the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective over the course of the race."
Jack Miller, who started the race in 15th place, made an impressive start and quickly moved up to eighth position by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian rider soon faced difficulties with maintaining rear grip.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins on the final lap and losing the ninth position, he was one of three riders penalized with a 16-second penalty for tyre pressure violations after the race, which pushed him down to 15th place.
"A lengthy race," remarked Miller. "The track conditions have varied once more. It’s been quite dirty for most of the weekend, but today it appeared to be more slippery."
"I gave it my all. It was really tough to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I had a major highside incident as I exited the final turn."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when transitioning from the outer edge to the center of the tire, but I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We'll continue to work hard."
“Pleased to finish in the top ten, but Rins managed to overtake me on the back straight during the final lap. I was trying to be as accurate as possible, but I didn't accelerate well and he managed to pass me.”
"We will return to Misano in the future."
Test rider Pol Espargaro will join as a wild-card entry, bringing the total number of KTM riders to five this weekend.
“Head to Misano next, considering the upcoming test and Pol’s wildcard that will provide us some future assistance,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, with Acosta currently ranking fifth in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, is currently in 15th place, trailing Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
