Hamilton’s Ferrari Challenge: Button Predicts a New Racing Dynamic and Teammate Synergy with Leclerc
Lewis Hamilton is cautioned to anticipate a 'unique style of racing' upon his move to Ferrari. Jenson Button shares his insights on the interaction between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc within Ferrari.
Jenson Button, the 2009 Formula 1 world champion and ex-teammate of Lewis Hamilton, believes Hamilton will encounter a novel racing approach upon his move to Ferrari.
The seven-time world champion is set to team up with Charles Leclerc at Ferrari in the upcoming season, following his sensational move from Mercedes to take over Carlos Sainz's spot.
The relationship between Hamilton and Leclerc promises to be an intriguing narrative to watch, and Button, who teamed up with Hamilton at McLaren from 2010 to 2012, believes it has the potential to be fruitful.
"Button mentioned on the Sky Sports F1 podcast that if it were the Lewis from around seven or eight years ago, their relationship would likely be challenging."
"Now, he appears much more at ease with himself and honestly, I don't foresee any problems between them as teammates. Certainly no more than what Carlos [Sainz] and Charles are experiencing at the moment.
"Do I believe they will collaborate effectively? Absolutely. Charles brings several advantages to the table; he's familiar with the team and fluent in Italian. Should he choose to, he has the potential to significantly challenge Lewis and create a tense environment within the team."
"You might argue, 'That's not in the spirit of fair play,' yet it's an integral aspect of racing, a sentiment Nico Rosberg shares too. It revolves around rallying a support team around you, which not only empowers you but also diminishes the morale of your rival."
"Lewis has sufficient experience to grasp the scenario fully, and I am truly excited about the upcoming battle between team members."
Button suggests Hamilton must ready himself for the distinctive duties associated with being a driver for Ferrari.
"Clearly, they are collaborating, they are Ferrari. The focus is entirely on Ferrari. That's the main point with Ferrari," he continued.
In any other racing group, it's generally understood that the driver is primarily focused on their own success, along with that of the team. However, within Ferrari, the collective effort is dedicated to Ferrari's triumph in the world championships. The emphasis is on ensuring Ferrari secures the victory.
"This approach to racing is quite unique, particularly for someone of Lewis's caliber, who is a big name in the sport. Suddenly, it appears he's essentially supporting Ferrari's quest for the championship."
"Therefore, I'm eager to witness the evolving dynamics, which promise to be thrilling in the upcoming year."
