Francesco Bagnaia’s Dominant Performance in Assen Sprint Race: ‘The Pace Was Incredible
Francesco Bagnaia on commanding sprint race: “The speed was amazing”
Francesco Bagnaia delivered a powerful performance in Assen, remaining undefeated in the 13-lap sprint event.
Francesco Bagnaia continued his flawless performance in Assen by dominating the sprint race, leading from start to finish to secure his second straight sprint victory.
Following a series of errors and unfortunate events that marred his initial sprints of the season, Bagnaia has made a remarkable comeback. This includes his performance at Assen, where he remained unbeatable after setting a new lap record during the qualifiers.
In the initial laps, Jorge Martin managed to keep up, but by the middle of the race, Bagnaia's speed proved to be overwhelming.
Discussing his performance, Bagnaia expressed his elation: "I feel amazing. This is one of my favorite tracks. I've been the fastest in every session so far, so achieving more than this seems unattainable."
"We still have tomorrow as our primary goal, so it's crucial to begin in the same manner and aim to manage the race."
"Today was challenging since Martin had a strong start. I pushed hard and tried to gauge the performance of the rear tire to see if using the soft compound for tomorrow's race would be feasible."
"I gave it my all, and the motorcycle is functioning flawlessly. We've been improving it over the last few races, and now it’s performing excellently."
Before gaining a lead, Bagnaia seemed at ease with Martin trailing him closely.
Despite being a factory Ducati rider, he confessed that he was constantly pushing himself, although there were some laps where he maintained control.
Bagnaia remarked, "Right from the start of the race, I began to push hard to create a lead."
"I completed the first lap in 0.4 seconds and then aimed to increase my speed while staying cautious. Given the temperature and the challenging nature of the tires, it was easy to slip up today."
"The speed was astonishing. I clocked a time of 1 minute and 32 seconds on the final lap; aside from that, every other lap was under the 32-second mark, making it an almost flawless race."
