Francesco Bagnaia Targets First Pole of 2024 After Dominating Dutch MotoGP Opening Day
Dutch MotoGP: Francesco Bagnaia Aims for First 2024 Pole Position Following Strong Start
Francesco Bagnaia is targeting pole position at the Dutch MotoGP after leading the way in both practice sessions on Friday.
Francesco Bagnaia started the Dutch MotoGP weekend with a bang, leading the timesheets in both practice sessions on Friday.
The current world champion led the first practice session for the first time in his top-tier career and then excelled in the time attack runs during the second practice.
Bagnaia finished the afternoon session with a lead of 0.065 seconds over Maverick Vinales. No other rider came within three tenths of a second of the factory Ducati rider's lap time.
Reflecting on his impressive beginning to the weekend, Bagnaia remarked, "It's been quite a while since I've topped the charts in both sessions on the opening day."
"I’m really pleased with how things are going. I believe the effort we've put in since the beginning of the season is contributing to a better sense of connection right from the start."
“I won’t request anything else for tomorrow. I already feel content.”
"We're focusing on the minor details, but things are looking positive and I'm really pleased with how it's going. The time trial was successful, so I'm satisfied overall."
Bagnaia identified two riders as his main competitors, with one of them set to become his teammate in 2025.
Bagnaia commented, “At the moment, I believe Maverick [Vinales] is very competitive. Marc [Marquez] is also quite competitive. As for the other riders, I'll need to see how they perform in tomorrow's session when time attacks aren't a factor.”
"Maverick has made significant progress since this morning and is now the nearest competitor to us."
"It will be significant to start in the front row, but securing our first pole position of the season would be even more advantageous."
