Flavio Briatore’s Bold Podium Promise for Alpine by 2027: Eddie Jordan Shares Insights on F1’s Magic Man
Flavio Briatore's commitment to Alpine F1 unveiled: "He possesses a miraculous ability."
"He possesses a miraculous ability to make things occur."
Iconic Formula 1 team proprietor Eddie Jordan disclosed that Flavio Briatore assured him Alpine is set to secure a podium finish by 2027.
In June, it was revealed that Briatore would be coming back to Enstone, taking on the role of executive advisor for the team.
Briatore boasts an illustrious career in Formula 1, leading the squad to championship victories during its time as Benetton in the 1990s and later as Renault in the 2000s.
The Italian hasn't played a major part in Formula 1 since his departure from the leadership position at Renault in 2009.
Briatore stepped away from the sport following his connection to the Crashgate scandal, where Renault's driver, Nelson Piquet Jr., deliberately crashed during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
During his appearance on the Formula for Success podcast, Jordan shared his perspective on why he believes Alpine is a team to keep an eye on in the future.
"Jordan was clear on his stance regarding Alpine, stating, 'Whether I'm in a crucial meeting with a significant sponsor, discussing finances with my bank manager, or in any other important discussion, Flavio has no hesitation to interrupt abruptly."
"He had that manner about him – and it was mutual; I would have acted similarly. That's not the case today, but during my spell in Formula 1, Flavio was truly an exceptional individual."
"There were aspects of his behavior that I despised, and others that I truly admired. However, one thing is certain – he assured me, saying, ‘Eddie, trust me, by 2026 or 2027, Alpine will secure a spot on the podium.’"
"I won't claim to oppose the statement, as I genuinely concur. He possesses a unique ability to turn ideas into reality."
Alpine has faced challenges throughout the 2024 season, accumulating only 13 points over 18 races.
This positions them at ninth place in the F1 constructors' standings, with only Sauber trailing behind them.
Owing to their underwhelming results, especially in terms of engine capabilities, Alpine has decided to discontinue their in-house engine program set for 2026. This move was met with disappointment by the Viry faction of the team.
Jordan states that Briatore is concentrating on enhancing the car's performance instead of recruiting a high-profile driver.
"Flavio aims to construct the ultimate vehicle, a point we've previously mentioned. He believes that by doing so, the top driver will be inherently drawn to this car. This approach encapsulates his ethos," he further explained.
"Some individuals take a different approach. They prioritize finding the top driver first, then figure out how to make everything else fit, similar to Ferrari’s strategy – securing someone like Lewis Hamilton."
